could be the outside handle mechinisum partialy seized, try popping the oval landrover badge out the outside handle and giving it a good spray with wd40, work the handle a few times whilst door is open, it used to happen alot with my old 300tdi, worth a try,

i used WD40 on the fooker as well as drilling, as i thought it might help ease the threads to make the job easier and cos i didnt want the screw extractor to snap in the hole, or then it would defnitly fooked, the heat of drilling would of proberbly cracked the threads, but thought spraying...

a 1/2 inch bi-hex socket fits the studs, had the exact same happen to me, on the drivers side rear caliper on a 200tdi (that was on a K reg as well) as others have said, i gave it a good spray with WD40, left it till the next day, drilled it out, then used a stud extractor, not too hard...

hi if i remember right (its a few years since i done them) the 300 is 52mm you can get a socket that fits a torque wrench, the 200 i did was smaller? 50mm kevin
