hi
i have got a rear break caliper bolt snapped off.
the bolts that are on are hex head but the ones i have been sold have like a star head on them will they still fit? (ie is the thread the same)
what's the best way to get the old one out?
the part number for the new ones is ftc3375

it is for a disco 200tdi on a k reg

many thanks for any help

p.s. great site

without seeing it its be impossible to tell if its the same fred... as fer getting the broken bit out..heat, ...some kind of anti-seize oil left to soak over night or a stud extractor.. you could also try drilling slighty smaller than the bole size and retaping it.

if you have one good one out then lay it side by side with a new one, if the threads are a perfect fit in each other and the dia is the same then yer ok

depends where the bolt has snapped?
if theres some metal left showing then heat and a pr of stilsons will shift it.
you cant beat oxy/acet for these sort of jobs.
if its broken off flush, then its a drill jobby. good luck.

a 1/2 inch bi-hex socket fits the studs,

had the exact same happen to me, on the drivers side rear caliper on a 200tdi (that was on a K reg as well)
as others have said, i gave it a good spray with WD40, left it till the next day, drilled it out, then used a stud extractor, not too hard to do,
the worst job was going to the LR stealers and getting charged nearly £10 for 2 new studs:mad:

if yer just gonna drill the fooker why bother wiff the wd40 and the overnight wait? you might as well just get right in there wiff yer drill. be caerful you keep the drill bit in a straight line and not drill the broken bit at an angle..

i used WD40 on the fooker as well as drilling, as i thought it might help ease the threads to make the job easier and cos i didnt want the screw extractor to snap in the hole, or then it would defnitly fooked,

the heat of drilling would of proberbly cracked the threads, but thought spraying would help as well, every little helps
