My fuel gauge on my 1999 TD5 110 Defender has suddenly gone from half a tank to very empty. There is a problem with the gauge or level sensor. Before I start pulling bits off to see where the problem is, has anyone had to do the same?? Wondering if there could be a common fault. Thanks

Howdy My TD5 Defender has just failed its MOT as the rear shock absorber bushes are knackered. I have just bought new bushes. Is it a big job to change them myself??

Ok...Will do. I guess the problem will be as it is an intermittent issue, with my luck, it will run fine whilst plugged in. How will I know if the injectors are knackered, or at least at fault?? Thanks for your help.

OK........cracked open the ECU, and clean as a whistle.....i am now wondering if the stuttering and juddering had anything to do with the injector loom at all. My symptoms are exactly the same as described as oil getting into the ECU.....I have just replaced half the bloody Defender, and this...

I will crack open the ECU next week (carefully)... Yes, the replacement was Britpart......Will this cause the same problems?? If I need to get another loom, then what make?? Thanks for your input.

I can't drive the bloody thing anyway, as a brand new brake master cylinder has just failed!!!

Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it. The wires have been disconnected, so no chance of shorting. I have just been up and tested the battery which is fine. It seems next stop is to remove the alternator, and have a look at it.

Just another point............ The Defender is a Special Vehicles version, and has a split charging system. I am only using 1 battery at present............Could this have anything to do with it???

It's a brand new 95Ah battery.

I have just measured the amps that the alternator is putting out, and it is averaging about 80. I have been told, that it should be around 20 so the problem seems to be it is over charging. Bugger.
