    Freelander 1 TD4-Smoke-Poor Performance-Fixed.

I think if you entirely removed the Cat housing so the tester could visually see that you had removed it then yes, it would be a fail but with the Freelander exhaust you can simply knock the guts out of the Cat by inserting a bar through the exhaust pipe and there is no way of telling from a...

    Freelander 1 TD4-Smoke-Poor Performance-Fixed.

I had an ongoing but intermittent problem with my 2005 TD4. Symptoms were black smoke, poor performance and occasional EML. I decided to wait until the problem got really bad and permanent thinking this would make it easier to diagnose and eventually it got to a point where the engine wouldn't...

    Key Fob Battery

Thanks for the help guys, that's great! She definitely doesn't have to dock the key, iin fact on the rare occasions she actually locks it up she always has to hunt for the key at the bottom of her handbag! Sounds like a CR2032 then. Thanks again

    Key Fob Battery

Hi, my partner has a Freelander 2 and she is getting a message on her dash saying that her smart key battery is flat. Is this battery rechargeable and if so how? She doesn't put the key in the dash like you do on my BMW, she just leaves it in her handbag when driving! Should it be in a...

    Another Black Smoke Thread!

Success! I resigned myself to pulling the turbo today and when I removed the plug from the turbo actuator pressure converter I found a broken wire. Soldered the wire and re-connected and the performance is now back to normal and no black smoke. This plug normally resides at the bottom of the...

    Another Black Smoke Thread!

Thanks for the help guys, greatly appreciated! I replace the ccv filter last week when I serviced the car and I ah e now thoroughly clean the inlet manifold and egr. I have thoroughly checked every inch of hose working the engine bay and there are no leaks. I’m beginning to suspect the turbo...

    Another Black Smoke Thread!

Thanks Teddy but how do you get to them? I have checked the ones on the engine bay but there must be one from the turbo to the intercooler. Is it behind the front bumper?

    Another Black Smoke Thread!

My FL1 TD4 has been smoking from the exhaust and performing badly (0-60 is taking 28 seconds). If I disconnect the MAF performance improves (but still not as good as it should be) but the exhaust literally plumes black smoke throughout the rev range. I have looked at all the air hoses in the...

    Software Success!!

I don’t know whether or not it will work with older vehicles, mine is a 2006. The lead was bought a few years ago to diagnose a problem with my 2005 bmw. This is a link to the same lead https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F153087261029

    Whining Noise

I don’t think it’s the IRD because if it was then the sound would be relative to road speed rather than engine speed. I’m thinking it’s gearbox input shaft bearing

    Whining Noise

My Freelander TD4 is whining, it is the kind of noise you’d expect to hear of a belt was rubbing against a plastic cover but it isn’t. The frequency is definitely related to engine speed but it only does it when the car is under load, it doesn’t seem to do it when In neutral or park. I’m really...

    Software Success!!

    Software Success!!

ive been trawling the web for a few weeks now trying to find some cheap software that will allow me to view live data for my FL1 TD4 on my laptop. I have previously used inap on my BMW 320D and was hoping that I’d be able to use the same software on the Freelander but the software wouldn’t talk...

    Idle Too Fast

A quick update, the idle speed was actually correct but the tacho is reading wrong. With the ignition off the tacho reads zero (as you would expect) but once the ignition is turned on the needle rises even without the engine running. I’m not too worried about it so will leave it as it is.

    Idle Too Fast

Thanks I'll try that, I did get an EML come on yesterday, my handheld scanner was able to reset it but not to read the code. I will try to get the right software to read the ecu I think

    Idle Too Fast

Hi all, first post so please go easy! I have just bought a 2006 Freelander TD4 automatic and I love it. I have noticed though that the idle is too fast, it idles at just over 1000 RPM whether hot or cold and irrespective of whether or not air con or headlights are on. The idle is smooth and...
