Whining Noise

My Freelander TD4 is whining, it is the kind of noise you’d expect to hear of a belt was rubbing against a plastic cover but it isn’t. The frequency is definitely related to engine speed but it only does it when the car is under load, it doesn’t seem to do it when In neutral or park. I’m really hoping t isn’t a gearbox bearing and I’m hoping someone has had a similar problem before.

I have that but I know it is my gearbox or ird if you want the technical term

I don’t think it’s the IRD because if it was then the sound would be relative to road speed rather than engine speed. I’m thinking it’s gearbox input shaft bearing

Unlikely on the auto box. But it is well worth making sure the box fluid is:
A: fresh.
B: the correct level.
