The first thing I would check are the air hoses to the turbo and to and from the intercooler and the intercooler itself for leaks.

Next time it happens, take off the fuel filler cap and listen for air being sucked in, the vent may be blocked and causing a vacuum preventing fuel from being pulled out, try starting with the filler cap removed, (worth a try)

As long as you lubricate the seals with brake fluid and a bit of grease on the piston and spring they should last as long as any expensive one's

No, it's either dropping the fuel tank or cutting a hole, obviously the hole rear tub can be removed but that is a much bigger job than removing the tank and I would not even contemplate that.

Looks as though it has been lifted compared to my defender TD5 90 with 235/8516 wheels, your chassis is much higher than the top of the tyre the top of my tyre is half way up the chassis height, even allowing for my tyre extra height profile it looks a lot higher.

Even my TD5 seams like it is 4th when in 5th, thats the way they are, corners are taken in 3rd gear, they are low geared.
