    P38A Penetrating fluid -balls

Hi, So it looks like I’m going to have to do my ball joints and I’m not looking forward to it as my girl is a little bit rusty. So I was wondering whether any of you fine folks had any particular recommendations for a really good penetrating fluid ? Thanks in advance (again) Bob

What did you do with your Range Rover today

yeah, that’s what I thought. I contacted DVSA for clarification and they weren’t terribly helpful. I’m about to speak to the test centre again now.

P38A V8 (4.6) rattly under acceleration and a bit lacking in ‘oomph’

Gently,I hope ! like I said, the sound was almost identical to an air-cooled VW, a bit ‘whirry’ if you know what I mean.

P38A V8 (4.6) rattly under acceleration and a bit lacking in ‘oomph’

Hmm.. the exhaust has definitely seen better days -although it did odd an MOT emissions test today. I will need to look into a replacement and I supose that Stainless is the way to go… $$$’

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Yeah, I wondered about that as he actually said ‘as it’s not a permanent 4x4’…. I was absolutely flabbergasted. He couldn’t have caused any harm by doing so could he ? Or would he just get bogus readings ? He also flagged a ball-joint boot (which is intact) and a bump-stop (a replacement for...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

So today a total muppet failed my old girl at an MOT test because the ABS light was on. I pointed out that the light stays on until the vehicle is driven above 5mph and then goes out. He shrugged and said that he couldn’t do that on his rolling road so it was a fail. I’m honestly at a complete...

P38A V8 (4.6) rattly under acceleration and a bit lacking in ‘oomph’

I should check the air intake is all properly back together, I had taken the cover off for some reason and ought to check the join at the Mass air sensor. I do actually have some new plugs to go in, maybe I should look at that before the test

P38A V8 (4.6) rattly under acceleration and a bit lacking in ‘oomph’

I don’t know, I had the window down and when I put my foot down it sounded ‘off’. the noise was very like an air-cooled VW now that I think about it (if that makes sense) battery has been out but I’ve not been messing with anything engine-related. I did pop some Redex in the tank as it’s her...

P38A V8 (4.6) rattly under acceleration and a bit lacking in ‘oomph’

Hi, and sorry to Bother you again with what is likely a daft question. My ‘97 P38 4.6l Gems has been ‘resting’ for a wee while and I finally got her up and going today. all seemed ok but I noticed a distinct rhythmic metallic rattle under acceleration and what felt like a corresponding lack of...

P38A ABS / TC fault appeared after sitting idle for 3 weeks

So just to close the loop on this one, swapped out the ABS sensor for a £20 Allmakes one and the problem has gone ! Still baffled how that could’ve happened with it sitting idle but there you go. Cheap, easy fix in the end. thanks again for all your help ! Bob

P38A ABS / TC fault appeared after sitting idle for 3 weeks

Is that desiccant ? I changed the drier as it was a bit leaky which helped for a while. is something like a crochet hook handy for retrieving the beasties ? Or should I 3D print an implement from softer plastic ?

who’s Kurt and where does one find him ? -only joking, Kurt, don’t worry, I won’t be pestering you. will attempt to go through the various how-to’s, it *seems* relatively straightforward if fiddly

P38A ABS / TC fault appeared after sitting idle for 3 weeks

Yeah, I kinda think it’s the ‘sensible’ thing to do -as long as I don’t end up making it worse through, what was the phrase again… ‘ham-fisted Gibbonry’. so *just* the sensor to change, the heater matrix o-rings and the air block to rebuild then…. <sigh>

P38A ABS / TC fault appeared after sitting idle for 3 weeks

Well, blow me… it looks like there is an actual real fault with the ABS sensor - not sure how that could’ve happened while she was parked up, but hey ho. Just hope it’s easier to extract than the other one ! a replacement EAS valve block arrived in the post today. I’m unsure whether to fit it...

P38A ABS / TC fault appeared after sitting idle for 3 weeks

Arghhhhhh ! I’m about ready to give up… ABS fault won’t bloody clear. Had a look with Nanocom, it showed healthy speeds from each wheel sensor. Then threw up an e1 then an e2 code. when checking faults in Wabco, it says ‘normal rotation detected on all wheels’ then ‘front left sensor open...

P38A ABS / TC fault appeared after sitting idle for 3 weeks

So the alternator is updated, the cable end is recrimped (I used a size 16/10 Ring) and the new battery installed. Voltage is healthy and 14.7 V with the engine running (up from 13.8V) so far so good… but… the ABS / TC error (Front left sensor Open circuit) persists…. I’ll take her a short...
