What have you done to your Landie today.

Oil and filter. Seem to have had a bit of a leak around the rocker so also replaced all rocker seals.

    300tdi lost clutch pedal action

Clutch rod should come out about 20-30mm from memory. Mine only came out a few mm when it had punched through. I secured the plastic clip to the clutch fork with cable ties. That way it can't pull off by accident.

    300tdi lost clutch pedal action

When my clutch fork went, it blew the seal on the slave cylinder. Have you already removed the sloave and checked clutch rod operation - be careful not to pull the rod out!

    Ex MOD 110

That's a very good idea Oldseadog. I've never seen her in the flesh. If you can wait about a month, my garage should be finished then and I'll give you a shout. We are upside down at the moment having an extension built.

    Ex MOD 110

Mines ex-mod. That looks like a fitted for radio (FFR). Normally the hard tops are. You can see the (large) 24v generator under the bonnet. The mileage on the clock will have no baring at all on engine life. The engine could well have spent months and years running at 2k all day charging...

    200Tdi conversion tidy up...advice/comments please!

If it helps, you could fit a TD5 under wing washer bottle to free up some space. A search should reveal the part code.

    Starting issues - 200tdi defender

LR's design, not mine. Mines converted from an old style normally aspirated before relays were used for the glows. When turning the ignition key past the on position, there is a halfway position before start. You can hold the key in this position againt a strong spring to turn on the glow...

    Starting issues - 200tdi defender

Also worth checking the diesel leakoff lines as they begin to let air in when they perish. I rarely use my glow plugs, which are controlled manually. When I have used them in very cold weather the difference they have made is that the engine will start instantly instead of turning over for...

Sitting an engine on the bellhousing - vertically

I didn't think they had a gasket - it's a special sealant I think. I need to do mine at some point. It's on a long list of jobs to do when I finally have a garage big enough for the beast.

    Holet in my transfer box

Found what is hopefully the main source of the leak, which is my reversing switch has gone missing! Mines never been connected as I don't have reverse lights. Must have gone astray whilst I had the box off. Does anyone know what thread pitch it is? M10 is correct size but the thread is...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Gearbox, transfer box and diffs oil change.

    Holet in my transfer box

It'seems actually pretty clean. It may not look it in the area but it is. I gave it a good clean with brake cleaner and stuck some plumbers mate on it which seems to be holding well as a temp fix.

    Holet in my transfer box

The hole is not 6mm, so disintegration is incomplete.

    Holet in my transfer box

Thanks James. Is it possible to remove and replace in situ without overhaul or should I just fill it?

    Holet in my transfer box

It's a 1.2 from a disco. I've got my original 1.6 ratio in the garage.

    Holet in my transfer box

There's a small hole right at the top of my transfer box. Top, centre front as pictured. I think it's probably always been there but previously filled/sealed. Seems bizarre. Anyone got any ideas where it's come from? Could it be a poor casting? I'm losing quite a bit of oil through it...

Up and running, am I paranoid

It's a shame you can't still get new 200 TDI heads. Demand must still be quite high.

Up and running, am I paranoid

The main purpose of coolant is anti corrosion properties, anti freeze properties and it can be heated beyond the boiling point of water without turning into a gas provided that the system is sealed properly. In fact, plain water cools more efficiently than coolant upto boiling point.

Up and running, am I paranoid

Sounds like your stat is not opening fast enough/sticking. I have a temp sender on my top hose and I can actually see when the stat opens - the temp immediately drops. On the runs you're describing, my top hose would be around 80 degrees. With hard driving, the stat on mine is fully open and...
