Questionable workmanship at an independent land rover garage.

Looks like they don't care, that never took 3 hours to do, I wouldn't buy a vehicle with repairs like that, would rather just see the corrosion.

    Christmas Expedition/Adventure/Day out

I did from where I live in Suffolk to Algecerias in 29 hours non stop in the Defender, can't say it was the most comfortable trip I have done.

    Coolant drop after rebuild

Mine used to loose a little after I changed the rad, couldn't find where the leak was coming from initially other than you could smell the coolant, crawling about underneath I found a couple of pink drips on the steering damper on one side. Like was said above th coolant that was leaking out of...

    Crankshaft damper

Mine fitted on the engine right now is the original one, I bought a new one as I felt it was time to swap out all the pulley tensioners and belt as the truck has done 100k, I bought genuine LR pulleys as I cant see the point of messing around with these parts again. I've had all the parts for...

    Morale Support for an MOT

The auto gearbox was not that sharp when it was new, your bands are probably worn, better off getting it rebuilt or finding a lowish mileage one.

I subscribe to the fact that work is a distraction from death.

    Morale Support for an MOT

Have you ever changed the fluid and filter in the auto box, they should be changed every 30k at least.

    Crankshaft damper

I got mine from a Ford Transit parts place in Wembley, as the same pulley is used on Transits as well as the Td5, two year warranty for £100.

    Fitting a light bar

I tapped into an existing supply behind the central fuse board with an in-line fuse, installed the relay behind the gauges and fitted the switch on the steering column where there is a blank for the choke cable on V8 models. Can you mount the bar on the roof rack?

    Equipe 4x4 Front Bumper

Bought the grill, but looked at the bumper at the LRO show, and it looked a bit fussy and not that robust when you see it in the flesh

    Front Trailing arm bush replacement

Poly can be a a bit hard, genuine LR ones only cost £8 each and they last for quite a while and are at least supple.

    Morocco March 2016

I'm cool to go wherever, just not that keen on salt water bits, I'm a bit anal about the salt+land rover = rusty combo mix.

    Morocco March 2016

Sounds good, but personally I have no real idea of what the route will be after we get to Marrakesh on day one. I know Ken wants to drive somewhere Deep South to deliver some tools to a mechanic chap who previously fixed his 110, no doubt it's somewhere a little "iffy" LOL

My mind rejects it! Engine rust in a Defender under 1 year??

The alloy parts are showing corrosion too, does it not get much use? Not sure my OCD could leave that bright orange rust untreated even if its harmless.

TD5 defender non start no glow plug/engine light.

What are your symptoms Steven? No coil / engine light and temp gauge goes into the red when cranking over, no fuel pump noise with ignition on? Or No coil / engine lights, temp gauge reads in normal position when cranking over, no fuel pump noise with ignition on? Similar symptoms but the...
