If you are prepared to put the chassis on yourself and consider it a labour of love. I wouldn't consider that unless you had a workshop of large garage. But if you rebuild it back up, copper greasing as you go, full respray etc then it'll be worth a fair amount.

Most of the things you would do apart from engine/egr etc will adversely affect the off road capability of the vehicle. You could go more road biased tyres or even thinner tyres but that makes them useless off tarmac. Sometimes its best to just accept it is what it is and don't be heavy on...
