Have to agree with trax on several fronts having met doc ;) 1. Whilst he's doing his course etc its a good way to test his skills and make mistakes and rectify them and learn from them. 2. Whilst he is concentrating on that he isn't taking anything else apart and leaving it unfinished! I...

My only worry is that the more you go non standard ( ie tried and tested) the more expense and laid up time. I know you were didled on the gearbox but i would still go back to that as the root of most of your issues. I like the fact you have sourced jaguar bits as there is certainly some...

Looking good. Doc, have you considered searching out one of them army mess tents? Perfect for a temp garage and heavy enough not to blow away and they heat up nicely when flaps are down

Surely with overcooling there are drawbacks. One being when it is really cold the heater takes an age to get up to temp.

    temp sender help please

Get an aftermarket sender and gauge kit. Need a 16tpi thread on it or and adapter which is a couple of quid. Make sure the gauge is a 52mm one as this will fit straight into the dash. The landy gauge is random and doesn't really tell you much. After market gauges tell the exact temp.

I think if you put just stone in the ruts i doubt anyone would moan. Building waste is a different matter. Any council, forestry etc would just order in a wagon of aggregate to repair tracks. For instance in wales where slate is order of the day a tonne of broken stone from a quarry divided...

You have to remember that these lanes are not just for 4x4's. if a lane is gated off it affects locals more than you. If by loads of off roaders coming through a farmer or council vehicle gets stuck it causes far more expense. Still think that on more boggy lanes should carry a couple if 25kg...

    headlining

Heat resistant spray. Closed cell camping mats or but a roll of the stuff. Line it ( 20thick makes fabric easier) then glue fabric to it and tuck into the joins. Looks well plush

    Not pop-top but flip top!

I was looking at the possibility of using one of the grp tops but just the top and sides sliding back. This leaves underneath to store things.

Minor collision. Should l claim on his insurance?

Also say that a witness has come forward to say they saw him reverse. If he asks for details say you will reveal the witness to the insurance company if required but you want to be fair to him and avoid insurance company involvement so "lets sort this"

Did anyone see "the gadget man" yeterday? Had a transporter basically the back extends ( like you see on rv's only theirs are usually on the side). I reckon this is doable on a defender.
