The paint code for the freelander should be on the plate fixed to the passengers side door pillar (the B pillar) mine is.

The pads dont back away from the disks far when the pressure is released ,a pad could be catching some rust on the disk. It might be a caliper partially seized after standing while you were away.

Could it be a brake pad catching on rust on the edge of the disk,

Maybe a bit of play in the front diff can you hear it when you pick up speed as well.

Yes thanks but he was too far away to come and see it but did seem to be interested though,is the clunking all the time or when going over uneven ground or does it sound like something catching as the wheel turns?

Is the noise from the front or back? Have you fitted that air filter box yet?

The diff mounts on mine are still ok at about 65000mls ,I would probably replace them when needed with genuine ones from l/rover as they have lasted well so far :)
