Once the engine is up to normal running temp,re tighten the head bolts(90 ft/lbs I if I remember correctly) We used to get jelly in the sumps if someone topped up the oil with an engine oil that wasnt for diesel engines.

Topping up the coolant every week is not good news ,suspect a head gasket problem which is a common fault with the 1.8 petrol engines.
