Is it me or if its doing only 45mph on the flat with overdrive, theres something wrong with it?

On my 2.5na which has an electric solenoid, i have switch seperate from the igniton for the solenoid. Try hot wiring it direct to battery temporarily and see if that cures your issue

First drove my series when i was 12. First time i drove it at speed (round 65- 70 ) was interesting as at higher speeds i found the steering goes lighter. Love the driving experience though as its proper driving with no driver aids

With mismatched diffs, dont go into 4x4 otherwise you'll wreck the transmission. I dont think you have to remove front propshaft as its not connected to the drive during normal rear wheel drive. If you have free wheeling hubs fitted id engage them anyway just to be sure

To replace drive shaft gaskets, take off the dust cover or FRee wheeling hub if fitted. Then you should see a castellated but with split pin, remove the split pin. Remove the castle but with a 1" socket, if front axle it will spin unless you put it in 4 wheel drive in gear. Once that's off...

I jump start it with my mams golf usually and keep cranking till airs expelled and it gets going (this is with cracking the injector pipes until i see diesel coming through) . Saves flattening the battery.

If i had a 6 cyl that was good condition id be looking at an lpg conversion. With the cheaper fuel you'll be looking at an equivalent of around 30mpg or roughly the same as a tdi, which are also hideously loud. The main reason i didnt swap my 2.5na out for 300tdi in my series

With wheels on it should still do it as they should still hold the drum in the correct location. Didnt have screws in mine for years with no issues. Recenty fitted screws and no difference whatsoever

Could be air in ths system up to injector pump. If running its fine, when stopped air gets in the system. it will fire up on the fuel in the injector pipes and then die. Happened to mine. I also found that my lift pump was on the way out but that could have been unrelated as when the air leak...

how olds your petrol? Also is it possible theres an air leak in the fuel system? My diesel had an air leak at the filter a while back and wouldn't start. Not sure how susceptible the petrol is to air in fuel though whether it would run or not

More progress but no pics yet. Firstly i refitted the battery tray and then Refitted the radiator and filled up with coolant (tested with my antifreeze tester and is good to -15). Ten i fitted the battery and fired her up. Runs nice and sweet ;D with no load on it it wasnt quite getting hot...

Progress tonight :) Wheel bearing adjusted and new drive flange fitted. The britpart dust covers are a tight fit to say the least! Shocks fitted and brakes bled up. A trick i found to fit the split pin in the bottom shock mount is to use a valve spring compressor to compress the bush enough...
