Up for grabs before it's scrapped, I'm not expecting much interest but here goes!
I have a disco 1 that's been stripped and basically left with chassis and body with no doors, has windscreen, sunroofs, headlining, rear quarter panels.
Does not have axels engine or gearboxes, doors...
Hello Kath, welcome to the forum.
there's many people on here who are more than happy to share their experiances with landrover problems!
enjoy your new disco!
To remove diff, prop off,, half shafts out, oil drained, then undo all the nuts around the diff, give a little encouragement to break the seal around the mating surfaces and pull off the diff from axel,, carefull as its big n heavy.
Welcome, headlining is a usual problem, might be worth putting a little glue on the clips that hold it up, that's what I'm thinking of doing on mine.
Rattle vibration I'd put down to UJs
I think the front diff only takes about 2 ltrs of diff oil , vibration could be UJs or as suspected diff problems, wait for a expert reply on here though not from me :p
Start with the discovery it self first! try to get a good solid disco that likley to get through a few more MOTs check everywhere for what weldings been done, what hasent, what the chassis is like, and all the common rust spots.
can be hard to find a solid disco on the cheap but keep looking...
So don't put in the same oil in your gearbox as the transfer box, I think it's because the transfer box is basically a diff. And the gears aren't changed very often, unlike being changed all the time in a gearbox.
I've used same on clutch and brake fluid
I asked the same question here is a response I had from thebiglad (forum member)
You'll need 6 ltrs of EP 75 or 80w - 90, to GL4 or 5. That's enough for the 2 diffs and transfer box.
Re the main box, LR now recommend MTF94; they used to recommend atf...
Welcome! See your new landys greeted you in the proper land rover way.
They can give you grief, cost you money BUT will never cost or give as much grief as a woman :D
Welcome :) looks nice, I can't help much with your question but I'd imagine something could be fabricated to fit, what about tree sliders with a chequer plate on top? Just a suggestion.
Think I paid 20 quid for mine, seems to be ok, had to reuse the gutter the window sits in (that's broke but at least the window goes up electrically and down by pushing it)
AC on a landy? Suffer like the rest of us! ;)
I can't speak though I ain't drove mine during the little...
