    No need to by a maf unless it's totally shot and not giving any signal or is over fuelling badly. One of the major selling points of the synergy 2 is that it has the ability to compensate for an out of spec maf so I don't understand why everyone wants to rush into buying the pierburg replacement.

    Fuel pumps changed in 2002 before the facelift so for that year go by chassis # or physically check for underbonnet filter/pump.

    I think they are all the same ratio as the gearing is changed via the gearbox final drive in each model application. Ratio should be 3.214 turns of the prop to give 1 turn of the driveshaft/wheels. Turn them both to check the spare is the same as the one in the car.

    Ticking noise is likely to be from the FBH fuel pump if you have one, in which case it's perfectly normal but might be louder if it's been left resting against the chassis

    It is possible to end up with rear drive only. The fault is in the gearbox final drive carrier resulting in no drive to the LHF driveshaft. The easiest solution is a good second hand gearbox.

    Although maybe not the best direction, you'll find air flow is best through the face level vents and should help to keep warm.
