Leak at injector.. what can it be?

Thanks for reply. I am thinking it might not be this as the leak is quite dark like oil, and does not smell of diesel at all.

Leak at injector.. what can it be?

Thanks for replying. Not banjo seals or main fuel feed. Both are dry. Upon a closer look it seems the possiblity exists where it might be coming from the oil fill cap and a section of the rocker cover and running down and into the injector cut-out. This is just a theory so I guess it would make...

Leak at injector.. what can it be?

Greetings, 300tdi Defender Three or so weeks ago I removed all four injectors, took them to local BOSCH garage and got them cleaned & pressure tested. Upon re-installation I made sure that: 1: Brand new copper washers were used and installed with the ridge facing the injectors. 2. The injector...

    LED Dash light Change

Some persons use a pair of tweezers. I found a pair of thin, narrow scissors worked perfectly for me. The blades fit into the notches on bulb holders and the length of the scissors along with the availability of a handle made it a breeze to twist the holders out of place and to remove each bulb.

    Anti-Rattle Pins.. cheap fix

I have heard that these "bent shims" work better indeed. Actually I was very close to purchasing them but held off because I was told they are for Discos and 90s only. They wouldn't fit the 110.

    Anti-Rattle Pins.. cheap fix

Over the years this forum has provided me with invaluable info which has saved me tons of money in repair bills and has made me a way more competent mechanic on my Landy. So I have pledged to make it my aim to contribute what ever I can, no matter how simple it might be in the hopes of...

How tolerant of leaks can you be?

When I was new to Landy ownership I was completely obsessed with finding and fixing every possible leak and thought that acheiving this goal was easily attainable. Five years later I have come to accept that keeping these vehicles leak-free is possible, but it is a continuous, tiring and...

Injection Pump - Distributor Head O-ring?

Thanks for the reply. I took the defender to an injector pump technician who has experience with working on these particular type of injector pumps and he reccomended not to do it in situ. He has echoed my view that it looks a lot like the large o-ring on the pump head that is the culprit. I...

Injection Pump - Distributor Head O-ring?

Defender 300tdi BOSCH R509 injection pump. Slow yet steady diesel leak from distributor head area when engine is running. Leak not coming from any of the injector pipework unions so I believe I should be looking at the o-ring on the distributor head. Is there a part # for this? Can it be...

    Oil Leak - Timing Cover

Just a follow-up... The timing belt, idler and tensioner and timing case front gasket replaced. Silicone was used in the suspected bolt hole and after reassembly the entire area was degreased and washed. I made a couple short journeys between yesterday evening and this morning and so far so...

    Oil Leak - Timing Cover

Thanks for the reply. Removing the timing housing now is a little more work than I planned for at this time to replace that gasket. So do you mean use silicone in that bolt hole and around the head of the bolt? If that is what you mean, I am a little concerned that the oil will build up and...

    Oil Leak - Timing Cover

Greetings, Defender 110, 300tdi. Had a persistent oil leak towards the front of the engine for a while now and I was confident it was the front crank oil seal. So after purchasing a timing belt kit, front crank oils seals (1 behind crank pulley, 1 in timing case cover), cam shaft oil seal and...

    Black cloud of death

I believe this may be a possibility.

    Black cloud of death

Is this the screw that has a tamper proof seal? If so, mine looks intact and untouched. The diaphragm however as I mentioned in my 1st post was tampered with. I set it back to factory position. Reduced smoke while driving but not at startup.

    Black cloud of death

More like frequent short journeys. Model is a 2004 ROW spec.

    Black cloud of death

No I have not. I suspect they are not in the best condition as there is always a light grey smoke at idle despite valve clearances being done properly and I do not believe that the turbo is the cause.

    Black cloud of death

300tdi Defender Upon startup there is a huge cloud of grey/black smoke which shoots out and 8 times out of 10 finds some poor unsuspecting victim to smother. Happens all of the time regardless of hot or cold start. Months ago I discovered the diaphragm on the injection pump set in the...

    Which ATB front diff?

So clearly the majority are in favour of the Ashcroft ATB. My reason for going with either the Ashcroft unit or the TrueTrac is generally for strength and better performance over the Rover 2-pin front differential Unit. I have not had positive experiences thus far with the standard 2-pin...

    Which ATB front diff?

Defender 110 - Front differential to be replaced. Which is the better unit? Ashcroft ATB or Eaton Truetrac. Where I live, if I were to purchase either unit they would roughly work out to the same cost each after shipping, taxes duties etc. What is your opinion?

I thought there was a strange noise

Did that not give you horrible backlash when driving??
