    Abs fault, freelander 1

Mine have all been going (2001 130,000), as these old hubs rust, the rust expands and splits the toothy metal ring that feeds the signal to the sensors. The garage that fixes my car, always checks the ring as well as the sensor. Around £75 per repair if just the sensor, £250 if they need a...

Freelander 1 Tight Reversing or Cornering, wheels spin?

I noticed when I slowly emerge from a 90 degree junction, one of the rear wheel seem to instantly spin or jump, just an instant sensation of scrubbing. Same sensation and feel when slowly reversing into a parking bay, I can feel the rear wheels 'jumping'. I only get this going forward or...

Freelander 1 Beware Reconditioned Webasto heaters

...I also meant to add, it's not the Run-Down switch-off cycle I am familiar with. It just stays on, full heat burn, drawing diesel from the Doer Pump, all the time. Even when I take the car keys out. Come back to a warm car, that won't start coz the battery is flat !

Freelander 1 Beware Reconditioned Webasto heaters

I meant to add, it's version-3 of a repair. The brains now have a 1-inch long coil component soldered across some points that was not there before.

Freelander 1 Beware Reconditioned Webasto heaters

I am on my 3rd unit now in the last 12 months. It's such a damned pain taking the front bumper off etc just to fit a part that fails in a week or so. Fitted 'version 3' today. Fired up okay, great, I thought finally a working Pre-heater and Parking Heater like I used to have, so I can get...

Freelander 1 Rear Window Guard Kit - help with Instruction

Thanks for the helps guys. The Freelander manual says don't drive with the window down as exhaust gets in. So I won't, it's for keeping the motor cooler when parked. Cheers

Freelander 1 Rear Window Guard Kit - help with Instruction

I got one of the official Freelander-1 Rear Window Guard kit to help my old hound this summer. The instructions have use of little paper template that came in the kit, this template is used to punch the drilling points for the holding brackets so is quite critical to do it right. Step 3 shows...

Freelander 1 Steering Lock causing Fan Noise ??

Thanks - never thought of the aircon switch! fantastic forum as ever, cheers. (back to the garage as they fitted a crumbled Crank Pulley and Tensioner just 2000 miles back and it cost me £400)

Freelander 1 Steering Lock causing Fan Noise ??

Thanks I will check - can you settle my mind and suggest why I can get no noise at all from this problem when my cabin air fan is switched off?

Freelander 1 Steering Lock causing Fan Noise ??

When I engage the last 7/8th of wheel-lock steering, such as turning a tight corner, I hear a clattering, screaming noise from deep in the bonnet area. It sounds like a fan clattering on something - it only appears when I have the cabin fan switched on. No fan, no noise. How the 'eck is my...

    Freelander 1 TD4 a new whine noise

My 2001 TD4 130,000 miles with new auto-box fitted at 86,000 Full Servicing still done I do love this car:-) Not long ago had the main pulley wheel and drive-belt replaced (the one that drives the AirCon compressor) Been happy as Larry, but just started is a new whining noise, it only comes...

Q for those with Webasto Thermo Tops

Now with the first proper sub-zero temps, the Heater won;lt even begin a fire-up procedure. Just the cabin fans switch on, no life from the Webasto. The Webasto looks hungrily at my wallet. Now looking into alternatives as pre-heaters.

Q for those with Webasto Thermo Tops

The PCB looks very different from the images on French Mike's original repair article. Not showing well on the photo, this (Reconditioned?) unit PCB has a thick layer of laquer-like varnish all over everything. Think all I can do now is risk a new GlowPin and see if that works. Hope you...

Q for those with Webasto Thermo Tops

Well I connected the little 5W bulb across the GlowPin terminals. On switching on the Heater, the light comes on for around 1/4 second then goes out. The Heater system remains the same state on not working.

Q for those with Webasto Thermo Tops

Well I took it off the Freelander and stripped it all down in the shed. I set it up as a crude test-bed. When switching on, I get the water turning over nice, but the Combustion Fan stays on at a very high speed, bloiwing cold air. No signal to the Doser Fuel Pump. Stripped it down. Not...

    Freelander rear clunk

I replaced mine again after just a couple of months using cheap items from the Bay. Thought I was getting a bargain, with hindsight, they are RUBBISH Opted for the strong sporty polypropylene bushes, much harder and long-lasting, and the auto box gear changes now feel sharp as a razor, better...

    Milers diesel additive

Just my tuppence. I got a 5L big tin of Millers from the Bay, saves a fortune on buying it in smaller bottles. On the downside, easy to get greedy with a big tin, I add 40ML per 20L of fuel. It makes a massive perceived difference to the smoothness and sense of greatly increased engine power...

Q for those with Webasto Thermo Tops

....another question... The Lockout Reset Procedure - it mentions removing and replacing the "main fuse" a few times, then also mentions removing and replacing "Fuse F2" - my Fuse F2 (20 Amp) is in the Engine Bay fuse box - should I be removing the biggest of the 2 cabin fuses that link to the...
