range rover 2.5dt p38 cooling issues

Hi, first thing I would do is to fit the fan cowl (shroud) back on if it is missing. The main point of the fan cowl is to prevent hot air recirculation at low speed / stop. Without the cowl the fan draws in hot air from around the engine bay rather than pulling cool air through the rad. Might...

    2003 4.4 v8 Coolant warning

Hi, Check the actual coolant level as it may be a false indication that it's low. To do this, make sure it's cold and then remove the expansion tank cap. There is a vertical red plastic float in there which will bob up to indicate the coolant level. If the plastic indicator tells you the...

    Td4 Lack of power at 70mph - fixed !

Hi, My orignal problem didn't bring on the engine management light. I also don't think that there were any p-codes in there, well at least my cheapo ebay kit said that there wasn't any. The turbo boost solenoid STC4198 was definitely fitted to all M47 BMW diesel engines. If you lie on the...

    More Problems & R.A.C Patrolman

Hi, The easiest and best way to check if your engine used to be a petrol is to look at the VIN as they can't change that. If the 8th digit is "E" then it was originally fitted with the M47 diesel engine. Anything other than "E" says that it wasn't......

my td4 wont go above 3000rpm please help

Hi, It's worth testing the turbo control solenoid as detailed here.... http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/td4-lack-power-70mph-fixed-77147.html It may not be your issue, but it's an easy 10 minute test and thus worth a try. It cured my "limp home" type issue that occured at about 70mph...

    Hissing from coolant reservoir

Sounds like a poor seal between the cap and the tank. If they are pressure testing, get them to tee into the bleed hose to the tank so that you can pressure test with the cap on and thus see if it leaks. Don't go above the pressure rating of the cap though or it will do it's job and vent the...

Hi Joy, Mine was generally on a hill, but it did sometimes ocurr on the flat. Really easy test is to just pull the vac pipe off as mentioned in my post and see if it makes the difference. Hope that you sort it :)

    TD4 won't rev over 4K??

Hiya, Sorry to hear that you're having problems. I had the turbo solenoid issue and it was the root cause of mine not pulling properly up hills at speed. See my post here for how to test it... http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/td4-lack-power-70mph-fixed-77147.html Good luck :)

TD4 just broken down, Help, Advice please!

I've got an 03 and my pump is under the wheelarch. Hope you get it sorted :)

Should this pipe have a clip?

Yep good answers, the hose clip should only be on the rubber hose. The ally heat sleeving is just slid over the hose, not held on by anything other than friction. Keep us posted when you find the rattle, a I also have a tizz like rattle when the engine is under a bit of load. Will check out...

    TD4 and self-priming??

Hiya, I changed my filter and drained the sedimentor a couple of weeks back. All I did afterwards was key on but not start, waited for the pump to finish buzzing away, and then turned the engine over and it fired first time. Re- the spare connector, I think it's for the additional pump that...

    Blue or Red Antifreeze??

If it was a "general" silicate based coolant then it needs regular changes. This is because the corrosion protection is provided by the silicate depleting from the coolant and coating the surfaces inside the engine / radiator. As that coating gets eroded, more silicate depletes to cover it, and...

    Help with some identification

Unfortunately you have to buy the complete hose with the sensor in it (PNH500190 I think), as you can't just get the short cuff of hose on it's own. :)

FUNNY(im crying really it gets worse)

The remote stat on K1.8 is a PRT. The early one (cream colour, PEM100990) was common to Disco V8 and had a stronger bypass spring than the later one (grey). The later one (PEL500110) also opens at a sligtly lower temp than the previous. I wouldn't fancy either's chances at stopping a HGF as...

FUNNY(im crying really it gets worse)

Sorry i've got to disagree.... In 2005 the remote level sensor was introduced (PCF500060) black plastic unit with a float inside which fits just downstream of the expansion tank. The remote thermostat was fitted from 2001, and was a retrofit option on any earlier K1.8 car that needed it. I...

    dodgie stereo from hell

Hi, I bought a Sony MEX-BT3600 from Half's for mine as it had bluetooth connectivity and a USB input so that I can play all my mp3 tunes from my 16gb memory stick. It's also got a 3.5mm stereo input on the front so you wire your ipod output into that. It's now £190 though, gone up since I...
