    110 gearbox change(what should I do)

What have you got now? You'll be very lucky to get a good second hand LT77 long stick, they are like gold dust, better to get yours reconned. Tfer boxes don't wear out as bad and there are plenty 2nd hand disco ones about if you don't mind the higher gearing - but check what ratio u currently...

whats the difference between transfere boxes

It also depends on what engine you have and tyre size. Don't bother fitting a disco tfer box in anything before a tdi as it won't be powerful enough. I have a disco gearbox/transfer box in my 110 and the gearing is noticeably taller (noticeable pulling away in 1st gear) but revs are a lot...

    lightweight series 3

In fact i think the rod can be accessed through the top of the pedal box and adjusted, without unbolting MC (been a while, can't remember for sure:D)

    lightweight series 3

open bleed nipple on one of wheel cylinders, if pressure is released and wheels now turn then its the master cylinder pushrod incorrectly adjusted. Unbolt MC from servo or pedal box (if no servo) and adjust rod length - it needs to be made shorter.

    lightweight series 3

Is the pedal rock hard with no travel? This oftens means the m/c pushrod is not adjusted correctly. If so Back it off a bit.

    110/defender fuel sender/pickup

Need to replace the fuel sender/pickup unit in the fuel tank of my 1985 110. Does anyone know if the later defender units can be used in place of the earlier type? They look the same except the later one has a plastic pick up tube rather than metal, and the later ones are much cheaper...

    series & defender pedal box

Sorry mate i can only confirm that the early defender (pre-300tdi) pedal box fits into a series 3 lightweight. Don't know if series 1 and 2 are same pedal box as series 3

    series & defender pedal box

The bolts holes lined up fine but due to the larger size of the defender servo i had to cut a bit of the top of the wing away before it would fit in. Doesn't notice tho. I used an early defender servo (pre-300tdi) and was able to just connect the existing dual circuit series MC to it, very...

Ninety steering pipes - fix or replace

Compressions are fine for PAS, i have two on my system and been fine for last 3 years - they are steel ones from Pirtek, but you could probably get cheaper on line. Have a search for banjos on ebay - some of them have a long straight tail with a bulbed bit on the end, long as its 8mm and steel...

Ninety steering pipes - fix or replace

You can often repair these yourself, if theres a split in the steel pipe you can cut it and put a 8mm steel compression union in. Banjos are cheap to buy try googling ssl diesel, get a new one and and join it to your old pipe with a compression union , do it up tight job done for about a...

    200tdi 5 speed conversion

I think thats true but mine has a galvanised coiler chassis so i suspect its not the original. Anyway took the plunge and removed the rearmost one - thanx for the confimation James. Guess next step is to put the 200tdi in so i know where to put the gearbox:D. Will keep the pics coming to show...

    200tdi 5 speed conversion

Started the conversion of my lightweight, old engine and gearbox out, handbrake mechanism and battery tray all removed, ready for ne box to go in. I understand its necesary to remove one of the s3 cross members under the gearbox and replace with a defende x member for this conversion, can...

    Irritating coolant leak - 200tdi

Found the source of my annoying water loss problem, its leaking out from between the timing case and the block at the front of the engine just below where the thermostat housing is. Originally i thought it was leaking frolm the thermostat housing, but its not, i then thought the head gasket...

    Crunching into gear

The HD ones are just a standard one with a piece of steel plate welded on behind the rod seat, same as what some one has done on your knackered one. Trouble is they only used thin steel, you need to use 3mm plate or thicker, that won't bend. I believe paddocks sell HD ones.

Disco 3ooTDi T/Box into 200TDi defender - any bits I should be doing extra??

You have to drill a hole in the defender handbrake bracket that lines up with one of the holes in the disco transfer box. You'll never be able to do it whilst its on the vehicle, so take the bracket off and do it before. There are actually two holes but one of them lines up in a position on...

My new toy! 1969 2.8TD (Isuzu)

someone has spent a lot of money replacing the seats, they are in way better condition than most defenders. The second row ones are the nuts, i'm jealous! If you r removing the flip up seats put em on ebay they sell well. The propellor is the viscous fan that should be at the front of the...

Gap between gearbox and cover plate

Try to seal it up all the way round if you can, if you wade in deep water it will get in and could ruin your clutch and starter motor

    help a newbie

you can get replacement body panels but they won't be new and will probably be bent or dented :-) Not normally worth replacing them anyway as they don't go rusty. Main bits to check are the bits that DO go rusty - chassis rails, outriggers under the bulkhead, rear cross member and the...
