Make sure all the wires are tidy and secured, not hanging around or stretched across stuff. After I did my Tdi upgrade the MOT man failed it on 'untidy wiring under the bonnet'. Apparently a new rule that came in last year, along with numerous other pernickety ones......

There is a lever behind the front radiator grill, you have to poke your fingers through and pull it. There's also a lock barrel in the front panel that you can lock it with to stop any Tom Dick or Harry opening it. I don't know about choke cables, I can't remember any of my petrol ones having...

The diagram looks to be a mirror image of what i have on mine, as the ignition barrel and bonnet pull slots are on the opposite sides (maybe LHD?). Items 6&7 look like they are only needed if you have a bonnet pull cable fitted. (Mine doesn't)

Lads, Front diff went bang at the weekend :( I have a couple of spares someone gave me but not sure of their condition, they look ok but how can I tell if they are mechanically good - are there some simple checks I can do? Did a search on this but not really any obvious pointers. Its a 1985...

+1. Use a proper sealant like Dirko if you can as its easier to apply. Did this on a VW 1.9tdi engine recently, works a treat, no leaks.

U can't pull the cv through the flange on the back of the ball, the hole is too small, it will only come out through the front by removing stub axle

Surely if the tab washer is in place and correctly bent over the mainshaft nut cannot come loose? Never had any problems with any of mine. BTW You can use RTV or blue hylomar instead of gaskets, makes a perfect seal. Ads

Its quite difficult/impossible to weld the new outriggers on with the footwell in place. Generally both are knackered so most folks replace the footwell as part of the job, makes the outrigger a lot easier. When I did mine I just put a jack under the outer sill channel to support bulkhead...

if you can't physically move the gear lever into 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear positions, even with the engine off, its almost certainly the selector interlocks. You need to remove the detent balls and springs and take the top cover off the gearbox. Its possible that the reverse selector rod is...

Most of the lanes are quite narrow and either tree-lined or in woodland, so you will get rub marks on your nice shiny paintwork, though not generally dents. May be better off at a pay n play site as they tend to be a bit more open. Ad
