Classic 1982 Range Rover 3.5 V8 CHARGING ISSUES

Nope hehe. First year of the official Rover 4 door Range Rovers i think. Its an 82. It was registered in Germany. The German Fire Departments seemed to really like the Rangies. They began using them in 74 i think. Not a TACR2 though lol.

Classic 1982 Range Rover 3.5 V8 CHARGING ISSUES

Indeed it does. The V8 statement is indeed true. I think the rev drop I am seeing or shall I say listening is enough to cause discomfort if you know what I mean. Gonna replace the loom and alternator and report back. Cheers!

Classic 1982 Range Rover 3.5 V8 CHARGING ISSUES

Hey there, Thanks for the great info! Got ya. Yep indeed the later ECU systems do have the rev increase facility. What I am gonna do since I will have them at my disposal, I am gonna put the new alternator and the harness on the Rangie. Seems like good practice since the wiring especially...

Classic 1982 Range Rover 3.5 V8 CHARGING ISSUES

I see. That's how I had it cleared in my head too. Just wondered whether you meant something different. Couldn't it also be a case of a weak alternator causing the rev drop? As it's not compensating for the load thus robbing power from anywhere else? The engine I have opened up to do the...

Classic 1982 Range Rover 3.5 V8 CHARGING ISSUES

Hey there, Thanks for the response! Got the diagram. The brown wires go to the starter. The brown / yellow to the light. The brown ones don't have a relation with the ign light. It should come on when the key is on the second position and go out when you fire the Rangie up. When you say...

Classic 1982 Range Rover 3.5 V8 CHARGING ISSUES

Hey there, Here again as i have been chasing what i think must be a charging / alternator or possibly engine harness wiring harness issue. I realise thats 3 categories each extensive on their own. So what i am faced with is a rev drop (sounds like 100 to 150 revs) when the headlights come on...

ZENITH CD175 TEMPERATURE COMPENSATORS HELPFUL INFO

Hey hey, I was trying to figure why i had a somewhat rough idle after a freeway run (the temp dropped a bit due to airflow) on my 3.5 V8 with the twin CD175 Stromberg setup. I found my issue and it was the temp compensators. They were out of sync and one closed more than the other when the air...

Disco 2 HEADLIGHTS FACELIFT TO PERIOD CORRECT STYLE

A tad late but updating the thread one last time. The Disco left yesterday and everything is fine. I had indeed switched the main and low beams wires on the connector. Put them back together the right way (the top flat tab is the low beam on the bulb and Sierras tracer colour advice was spot...

Disco 2 HEADLIGHTS FACELIFT TO PERIOD CORRECT STYLE

Will update now that it has gone dark and I have somewhat aligned the headlights. I think I may have done just that. Is there any chance you know the tracer of the low beams on each side? It's quite simple to figure it out, just wanted to see whether you may already know it. Thanks very...

Disco 2 HEADLIGHTS FACELIFT TO PERIOD CORRECT STYLE

So photos as promised (front bumper has seen much much better days by the way) Gonna take some of the internals too. Just didn't think about it when finishing up today. Only the trim strips for under the headlights and indicators left to colour match and fit. Also gonna get someone to properly...

Disco 2 HEADLIGHTS FACELIFT TO PERIOD CORRECT STYLE

Hey hey, I promised to update so here we go ! We have light ! On the right side (as viewed from the back) for now as the left still has some work left to complete ! The wiring the previous buffoons had carried out drove me bloody wild ! Twisted together wire and insulating tape everywhere. I...

Actually looked the Lightcraft up. That's a very nice and handy bit of kit !

Classic 1982 Range Rover New Starter and sudden Earthing Issues

Yep, i know. Its just that it had an extra attaching point apart from the one on the chassis and the one on the starter bolt. I am wondering whether that extra attaching point that mounted at the lower part of the front wing is required. The earth strap is on. Chassis and starter bolt are the...

Classic 1982 Range Rover New Starter and sudden Earthing Issues

Yep that's what I think I will do. Yeah when I am wrong and the mess is on me i would be the first to admit it. Relearning every day, even the basic stuff it seems. However now that everything is back and installed properly i am still shorting the vehicle through the sender ground. I suppose...

Classic 1982 Range Rover New Starter and sudden Earthing Issues

Indeed ! I tend to use my phone most of the times. But its crap and drives me bloody mad ! I did actually purchase a torch that can also be fitted around the users head. Its on its way to me. Lets see if that works better. To be honest if i had a clear mind i wouldn't have messed it up. Not so...

Classic 1982 Range Rover New Starter and sudden Earthing Issues

Yeah buddy, i did that precisely ! Tired and no light makes you do wonders and then sit around all day long the next day figuring out what you messed up. I guess i should be more patient.

Classic 1982 Range Rover New Starter and sudden Earthing Issues

Yep i did just that ! I did that yesterday night after working all day long on a guys Disco 2 as he is refitting the original pre facelift headlights and it was quite involved as the shop that fitted the facelift ones butchered the bodywork and totally bootlegged the wiring. I wanted to work on...
