MG6 engine (non turbo) in 1.8 Freelander - inlet & exhaust manifold issues

Hi Guys, Some of you may have read my other posts about me having mated an MG6 cylinder block to an FL1 cylinder head, I’ve solved the cooling system issues but now I’ve noticed something else. This is a non turbo project as well. When I took the inlet manifold off, I could have sworn that the...

MG6 1.8 block in 1.8 FL1 - 1.8 Freelander new Timing Belt slightly runs over edge

I’ll have to check that out and see the gap. The MG6 and FL1 crank pulleys are the same. I just checked specs online now and note that a timing belt for the MG6 is 26mm wide and has 145 teeth, mirroring the FL1 timing belt which is also 26mm wide with 145 teeth.

MG6 1.8 block in 1.8 FL1 - 1.8 Freelander new Timing Belt slightly runs over edge

Hi all, My new timing belt is running about 1mm over the outside edge of the camshaft gears. New belt and new engine block from an MG6 1.8, mated to a Freelander cylinder head (distributor type). It’s not a turbo version. The timing belt tensioner is the auto tensioner as it should be but is...

    MG6 Turbo K series

I also have a short YouTube clip showing the plumbing I carried out to get the heat exchanger to fit. I’ll try post a link here, hope the link isn’t blocked.

    MG6 Turbo K series

Hi guys I just saw this now. I’ve also obtained an MG6 block and mated it to an FL1 cylinder head. The way I overcame the sensor issue was by simply getting a bushing of same outer diameter with inner diameter matching the FL1 crank sensor and hammering it in to that hole, then simply drilling...

Freelander 1 MG 6 Turbo Transplant

Did anyone here do an MG6 to Freelander non turbo? I’m using an MG6 block and will mate that to a Freelander 1.8 cylinder head, it’ll be non turbo, I’m just using the mg6 block. Di you know anyone who’s done this before and what was the outcome? Did they have to do anything to their ecu? We’re...

Freelander 1 Head Gasket Leak - sorted then unsorted again

Hi Andy, how did it go? Btw I actually spoke with HTr about this same issue a few times. Think mine also has a slow leak at the fire ring. I have a 1.8 FL1, engine fully rebuilt in 2016 with new cylinder head. MLS head gasket kit, genuine head bolts, strengthened oil rail. Has been going great...

    Hmmm interesting concept?

Speaking of the Roewe 750 (v6) engine, does anyone here have experience fitting one of these to a KV6 Freelander? if so what are the results?

    Freelander 1.8 - 2005

Hi Lilo, there is a fuel filter, it's in the fuel pump housing which in turn can be accessed via an access panel under neath the rear right seat. I have a 1.8 Freelander 2000, it really sounds like the fuel pump based on my experiences a few years ago. Does yours sound anything like mine as...

Roewe V6 (Chinese made) engine for KV6 2001 Freelander

Hi, does anyone here have experience with fitting a Roewe V6 (Chinese made by SAIC) engine for a V6 Freelander? I have a 2001 model and on it's rebuilt engine it is leaking coolant internally. Rather than sourcing another engine I am seriously looking at the Roewe option. I've sent some...

    SRS ECU replacement

Hi, I also meant to say that I replaced the airbag ECU with a second hand unit from some Rover breakers who said it was a known good one.

    SRS ECU replacement

_____________________________ Hi, sorry to revive an old thread but I've got this problem now... PITA! Scanned it for codes and it listed the airbag ECU and fault as well as "low battery voltage" and "srs warning lamp circuit fault". Then after this I renewed the rotary coupler and airbag with...

    Sloshing coolant in heater matrix

just wanted to add, I've read many articles where, even after the MLS gasket + shim were installed, the HG would not fail but would allow a tiny amount of coolant to weep externally, usually the right hand front corner or around that area. The way many people have fixed this was by doing the job...

Freelander 1 It's with great sadness i have to announce

Ok, digi, I was assuming you had a KV6 Freelander, was yours a 4 cylinder from the sounds of things? In the 4 cylinder, the intake manifold gasket is also green in colour coincidentally, but is made of rubber whereas the Kv6 intake manifold gaskets, 2 of them are made of paper gasket.
