HOW TO: IRD Driveshaft oil seal renewal

Doh............ Nodge thanks for advice Luckily shaft hasn't been removed:) At least I can treat the IRD to an oil change! I will now check gear box oil level and if there is only a small amount of oil to top up I'll leave the drive shaft seal renewal for another day

HOW TO: IRD Driveshaft oil seal renewal

Thanks for replies Nodge - I will persevere, jacking a bit higher will make it easier to use a hammer. There is a small amount of movement in the bearing, how much is too much? G'gel - I will keep trying! Is it worthwhile changing the seal?? The Freelander has done 115360 miles, 7400 miles...

Thanks for replies I shall buy the LR genuine part, in fairness I was offered 10% off over the phone:) I've read through the "How to" with very good photos and, if you have done the job, was there anything that you found particularly difficult? Over the years I've learnt to deal with most...

    Freelander 1 Oil seal cost

Hi All, I've searched and found a very good "How to" on IRD drive shaft seal renewal. Local Stratstones charge around £20 inc VAT for the seal whereas a google search shows a cost of around £8. Common part No UNG 100060L so advice, which is the best seal do I buy from dealer or off the web? Thanks

Freelander 1 Tow bar flashing beeper

Yes, Freelander 1! I have to admit, where do I find the flasher relay? My thoughts on fitting a bleeper were that the noise would make sure I cancel the indicator;)

Freelander 1 Tow bar flashing beeper

I have just fitted a tow bar and wish to fit the flasher audible beeper. I would like to avoid using scotch- loks which in my opinion look untidy so can a more tidy wiring solution and beeper be recommended. Thanks and I have searched the forum............!

    Freelander 1 Central locking

I have done as suggested, no horn or indicator flashing. What is my best way forward, can the alarm system be reset with diagnostic equipment or are there further checks I can do?

    Freelander 1 Central locking

Nodge thanks for reply. The dash LED dosen't flash but if it is relevant the hazard warning lights flash ok when switched on. I notice on an old receipt in 2010 there was an "Autologic Diagnostics recalibration of alarm", I've only owned the car 4 weeks so I am no wiser on this.

    Freelander 1 Central locking

I use the remote. I wonder if it is as simple as needing a new battery in the remote? Thanks for quick reply

    Freelander 1 Central locking

I have searched................... and I've had the 56 plate Freestyle 4 weeks. The central locking works ok but the lights don't flash when you hear the locks engage. Any guidance on what may be the problem? Many thanks

    Freelander 1 just purchased

There doesn't appear to be any problem with the VCU when going backward or forward on "full lock" BUT I see on the Stratstone Land Rover "vehicle health check" carried out 6k miles ago that the VCU bearing mounts have excessive play which indeed they do when I checked with a pry bar. Is renewal...
