Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

You could line the back of the block work with a pool liner but you would have to put this under the foundation and up each side and back and front as well to completely line the pit. That should stop any water getting in.

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

You only need one set and perhaps a couple of blocks. The most important things you will need thou is torx sockets. Edit: you will also need a big long reach socket to tap the bearing back on. I can't remember off hand what size it is but something like a 32mm long reach socket.

Aye when I built my garage 30 years ago the pit was always going to be included.

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

Make arrangements to come and visit Kalvin & Claire for a weekend and we'll do it in my garage over the pit.

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

Yep that's the ones but jesus they have gone up in price I only paid £36 for them in February. **** wish I had bought two sets now and kept one as a spare. They are only about a 20 min drive from me so went and picked them up.

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

Better to give them a ring Mike to make sure it's the GKN bearings you are getting. They do a cheaper bearing as well and don't want you getting the wrong cheaper ones. Austen from Bell engineering is a member on here so perhaps he can enlighten us on that.

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

There's no need to heat or smash seven sorts of ****e out of the uj's. All you have to do is slacken off the bolt which holds the two parts together then put a cold chisel down behind the bold and hit the chisel this will then start to split the two ends slacken off the bolt a little more and do...

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

You can't press the bearings into a used rubber mount. When the bearings and mount are assembled they are assembled in one go and moulded together, there is no way a bearing can be pressed into the rubber mount. Give these people a ring for the bearings just make sure you ask for the GKN ones...

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

Right I'm with you now lol. Personally I would not put a used bearing on my prop. The only way they could have tested the bearing is to have put a couple of fingers through the hole and spin the bearing and feel for a little unevenness when it's spun. I changed my bearings after I had a similar...

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

Mike, what rubbers are you talking about ??? the rubber holding the bearing in place can't be changed it's all moulded in one. If the rubber mount goes the bearing is useless regardless of it causing no problem.

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

That's exactly the same as what happened to me with the two cheap tyres I had put on the back. Drove into garage no vibration.......drove out 100 yds up the road noticed vibration, this lasted for a year until I drove into garage with vibration........had four Pirelli scorpion STR's put...

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

Hi Mike, How long have you had the tyres fitted ??? just wondering of it's anything to do with uneven tyre ware.

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

Doesn't make any difference. Bearings are best fitted to their natural position when in place and bolts pinched up before final torque.

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

It's worth a bit more investigation first Mike before you go forking out more money. Do you know anybody with a freelander near you that you could possibly try there wheels and tyres to see if the vibration goes or not.

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

Hmmmm if you had no problem before the VCU was fitted then it's all pointing towards the new VCU and bearings. Did you buy the VCU second hand ???? don't understand when you said they were not brand new rubbers so is what your saying is the bearings second hand ???

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

The £15 bearings will be crap and not worth the time and money to fit them. I'm sure Bell use GKN so you will be ok there. I've never used Hankook so can't comment on those but it could be the cause of your vibration.

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

Mike, What make bearings did your specialist fit ??? there are a number of different bearing manufactures about and most of them are crap GKN are regarded as the best bearing you can get to fit on the prop. I had new bearings fitted by a garage a couple of years ago and they didn't last six...

    TD4 Aux. Belt change ?

60k is the recommended interval to change the belts Mikey, did mine at the beginning of the year. This is when the 10 to 20NM torque wrench comes in handy but make sure it has a reversible head by this I mean it can torque both ways (clock wise and anti clock wise)
