    Brake pipe - flexible? NRC7801

Thanks. The description says flexible, so I thought it would be thus! Anyway, nothing else planned today.

    Brake pipe - flexible? NRC7801

Hi all I’ve bought a tired 110 which needs a new brake line from the driver side brake to the passenger side. There were no pre-made replacements for NRC7801 that I could find so I bought a “flexible” brakeline. It’s arrived and it’s about as flexible as wood. It’s essentially metal tubing...

    Panel oxidisation

Tks. Having closed the door a few times I am not sure there is any steel frame left!

    Panel oxidisation

Morning I have just bought a 110 truck cab which has had a tough life. Mechanically it is excellent: had a really neat 200tDI Defender engine upgrade, chassis and bulkhead in great condition. The bodywork, however, is rougher than a badger's arse. The doors have the usual crumbling interior...

300tdi new exhaust gasket not aligning

Hi all. So the end result was that the horns had twisted and were reset easily but the missing studs were missing for a reason. They have been rethread. So all now sorted. Thanks all.

1986 90 brakes - v soft pedal, especially after prolonged use

Thanks for this. I have adjusted the drums and the brakes are already much better. Amazing how much difference that a 1mm turn makes. I will keep an eye on this as, once you know what you are doing, it is quite straightforward. Once again, thanks to everyone that has helped. Onto the next...

1986 90 brakes - v soft pedal, especially after prolonged use

I will check the rear drum adjustment tomorrow, see if that is the problem. Thanks all.

1986 90 brakes - v soft pedal, especially after prolonged use

Apologies. Shoes on the rear, not pads. As the garage is a specialist I would have hoped they had done this. It has already been back once for a re-bleed after the pads were changed 2 weeks ago. The problem is that they sort of feel OK when cold (though still not great) so under a test drive...

1986 90 brakes - v soft pedal, especially after prolonged use

Hi. I don't work on the brakes and the garage that fitted the MC is a Land Rover specialist. It is possible, of course, but I would hope they know what they're up to! I will go back to them to discuss the problem but sometimes the experience on this site can help.

1986 90 brakes - v soft pedal, especially after prolonged use

Good afternoon all. I have had probs with the brakes on my 90 for a while. The master cylinder was replaced recently, the servo passes the usual tests, the garage that fitted the MC have bled the brakes again and there are new pads on the rear. It has a Disco 1 front axle/discs. Essentially the...

300tdi new exhaust gasket not aligning

It may be that the bullhorns are not tightly fitted. Also I think I need to refit the studs before trying to fit the exh mani. Is there a way to tighten up the bullhorns or is it just brute force?

300tdi new exhaust gasket not aligning

Afternoon all. I am trying to replace a blowing exh gasket. New one ordered from Bearmach. When I tried to instal this PM the exh manifold studs are poorly aligned against the head. three of the top studs are a tight squeeze, the fourth (end) stud (and I have tried from both ends) will not...

    300TDI exhaust manifold stuck

Hi. Yes, thanks. Went thru that saga! A new set of bolts are on their way. Thanks.

Kenlowe fan - is it working?

Morning all 300TDI 90 with a Kenlowe fan fitted. Recently the thermometer has been moving past N (but NOT overheating), especially if I am travelling slowly along an overgrown lane. I would like a manual switch to run the fan but I don't actually know whether it works. I have read some info...

    300TDI exhaust manifold stuck

Hi. My leaking inlet manifold was blowing oil over the engine so I’ve a new gasket. Inlet manifold came off without issue - the two long bolts were missing! The exh manifold was also missing bolts/studs. All now undone but the mani won’t budge. Normally I’d count the bolts to check if any have...

    1986 90 - transmission brake

Well. That was fun. Both adjuster and expander were absolutely locked solid. Removed. Cleaned. (Thanks for tip about removing the whole backplate). All cleaned up. Didn’t need a backplate holder. Simply used long nose mile grips thru the central holes and locked onto the jaws of the vice. Worked...

    1986 90 - transmission brake

Blimey. What a faff. So, drum off. Pictures attached. I think it is fair to say that water has been involved. The top piston on the adjuster was wedged tight and you could not turn the piston at all. A large screwdriver and lots of penetrating oil fixed that. Now clean. The expander doesn't...

    1986 90 - transmission brake

So. Finally decided to remove prop and fit new pads then clean up. Removing prop was a pain. Had to use angle grinder on most of the nuts. Now all off so tomorrow I’ll start on the drum brake. One of the bolts I cut thru was on the handbrake end of the Prop. Only have shorter bolts For the diff...
