Lithium battery vs lead acid for starters ;)

yep, this is still very much early adopter in track and classic concourse cares (so you do not have to sit them on a trickle charger) so expect it will take a while in Landies...

Lithium battery vs lead acid for starters ;)

The innovation in these batteries mean that while the first gen Zoe/Leaf etc you had to lease and had a 1-3 year warranty, you can now own and they are lasting up to 10 years at 80% or 60% of their power, at this time the weight to power ration makes them unsuitable for a vehicle by our first...

From what I have understood from the one I have bought that is built in

Yes, I did look at them, and would have probably been my first choice, but could not see an easy way of getting them here in UK?

That article is from 2010! Its ancient... the ageing they mention precludes about 3 generations of battery evolution! https://www.eag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/M-025517_Improving-Performance-and-Safety-of-Lithium-Ion-Batteries_Fig3.jpg

Lithium battery vs lead acid for starters ;)

It is worth noting that a) there is a load of crap out there on the internet in terms of ageing, memory, etc. and b) lithium has had a huge amount of innovation put into it even in the last 2-3 years we have seen warranties on lithium has gone from 1-3 years to over 10 years. All batteries age...

Lithium battery vs lead acid for starters ;)

You are right: You have to check on the battery and whether they have crucially a) as you point out the ability to take a current from an alternator, and b) that this charger / management essentially built in will cut out the battery stop stop it overcharging / draining too low that it dies. The...

Lithium battery vs lead acid for starters ;)

lol, it’s more like a colander than a battery box... interestingly I have been sealing those holes up and there seems to be a huge reduction in cabin noise from engine!

Lithium battery vs lead acid for starters ;)

Sorry, was not suggesting lithium is any more environmentally friendly than Lead, but there is way less lithium used, it is not suspended in acid, and it lasts a lot longer. On the recycle point; other than making more (at some point to be obsolete) lead acid batteries what else is such huge...

new terminals ordered, not sure where the “bodge” is though? are you referring to the shim? 12v battery shims are sold commercially for the reason I had to make one, most not from anything as conductive as copper for cost reasons! I was not about to give up on an install while waiting for new...

Me too, but I could not get any body to say I could seal up the battery box :( with AGM... so go figure, especially if exposed to Spanish summer sun heat (+30C)

I got the 20ah for £200 on fleabay where the 30ah was £259, but have seen the 30ah for £239 on the manufacturers website. The cheapest I saw the Oddysey was £253 me thinks on Tanya website

Lithium battery vs lead acid for starters ;)

..That's what had me scratching my head as well, I think the only logical reason can be the extra AH means you can leave it longer with voltage drain and still be startable? I would rather have a lifepo4 and a lithium jump starter / usb charger I can charge in the house and/or a solar trickle...

yep, think if you need the ah and they are not sensitive to drop then lithium not probably way forward for you yet

Lithium battery vs lead acid for starters ;)

yep, to get the same power you would need probably two 30 together (£480) however bear in mind there is no drop off in power during this output - I know nothing of winches so no idea if this is important or not for winches??? if this is important you maybe surprised at the ps-30 as I can imagine...

http://www.powerlite-units.com/products/ps-20/ and then used these connectors with my own m6 4cm long bolts Pair of battery posts with hex socket head M8 bolts designed for batteries with M8 bolt terminals: as you can put in any orientation I put the bolts in sideways so I can lay the...

So, my 300tdi came with a 68ah toyota battery - nice... and was as low as 12.4 volts on stationary and 13.4 while engine on so clearly needed a new one. Lot’s of great info here on batteries, so won’t go into the fact that I had shortlisted optima, odyysey, numax and was set on an odyysey 1500...
