Your mate sacrificed a socket for the cause, a man after my own heart.

    200tdi stalling issue

It could be total coincidence and actually be another fault, ie fuel tank cap breather blocked, air leak into the fuel lines incl the lift pump, any rubber fuel hoses fitted? Was there much fuel in the filter when you checked it? Yes pulley slots on the injection pump pulley, these can be...

    200tdi stalling issue

It is quite an easy job to adjust the timing so long as they sert the new belt up with the bolts in the middle of the cambelt pulley slots, otherwise it is a strip down job. It sounds rather quiet for a 200tdi, so maybe the timing is in the retarded position? I

    Charge light on series 3

Check for voltage down the charging light wire with ign on but engine not running, then check for volts at the battery with the engine running. I take it none of your horn wires go anywhere near the alternator?

Fast idle speed (tick-over) + other queries!

The bosch ve pump will self bleed, so if you have a small air leak into the fuel lines the car will still start but have a rough idle until the inj pump has a clear supply of fuel. There is no idle cable, there is an idle screw. A quick google of bosch ve injection pump will get you loads of...

Fast idle speed (tick-over) + other queries!

Sounds to me like the fuel screw has been wound in to much and this can raise the idle, the black smoke is a clue someone has been messing with it. Oil on 200 glow plugs is quite normal.

    Brake servo on a 2A Diesel ?

I would hazard a guess any servo will pretty much work with any vacuum pump.

    Warning to the unwary

Gear lever = 6 speed, twisty knob = 8 speed, at that age both will have the 3.0 litre engine.

    Impact Sockets?

Many years ago I bought a very old Snap on breaker bar from a car boot sale for 2 quid! Knuckle was missing but amazingly the current ones still fitted it, Snap On van man reckoned it was circa WW2 era, still use it most days.

Ingenium engine? if so burn it now and save yourself the agg.

    Impact Sockets?

From the snap on website, slightly different part nos, but gives you an idea on prices. Rough rule I always work on with used Snap On gear is fair used condition is roughly half of its new off the van price, which is normally cheaper than the prices listed on their website, not massively cheaper...

    Impact Sockets?

If you look at the snap on bits there is a little symbol near the part number that tells you what year it was made, can be a right bugger to see though.

    Impact Sockets?

Maybe, tbh this is about the poshest thing I own, and no one gets to see it! Ps the scabby one on the left is nowt to do with me! I spent years trying to find one of these boxes for sale KRL triple bank with two lids, quite rare.

    Impact Sockets?

I might have some of them, They are nice sockets, but they rust for fun and the size stamping is so shallow it is bloody awkward to read,

    Clutch failure

Change master/slave and flex pipe, cheap enough and you will then know if the clutch itself is good.
