    S3 200tdi - thank you

yes you can remove the front propshaft and still drive it i never have though even on my 109 which has a 3.54 rear diff and a 4.7 front diff (and fwh) , the reason for not removing it is if a halfshaft snaps you can then engage 4x4 and drag yourself away on just the front axle and you still...

    Steering damper for SWB?

play in the steering box is easy enough to sort out .... check the steering box mounting and the mounting to chassis is tight (rotten footwell ?? ) check all 6 track rod ends and the tracking oil the relay and check it doesn't move in the crossmember and that both levers/arms are tight...

    S3 200tdi - thank you

honestly i really wouldn't bother with the 255 tyres with the 4.7 diffs as you'll be putting yourself further into halfshaft stresses/snapping range with a 200tdi up front the taller tyre will be a greater lever to push round i'd possibly use that size tyre under a 109 but it'd want to be...

    Worth Restoring?

before you get into cutting and repairing that motor i'd suggest getting in touch with Dave Dutton of the Series2 club, he's the club VRO and will advise you on the procedure you need to follow if you want it correctly registered on an age related plate the Series2 club are the recognised...

    S3 200tdi - thank you

the tyres on thier own will only give roughly a 10% increase in gearing (maybe not quite that much) the ashcroft conversion gives nearly as much ratio increase as 3.54 diffs but as already said without the benefit of splitting gears that the overdrive will give one of the things i like about...

    S3 200tdi - thank you

i personally would change some of the transmission (diffs are cheapest) to raise the overall gear ratios (on a S3 no-one can tell unless they look for the filler plug in the diff), the reason why i would change the diffs is to gain the required fuel economy (not all 200tdi's give the same mpg so...

    lift kit

"spring over axle" conversions require some serious thought and effort to do properly then you'll most likely have trouble getting insurance plus your axle and diff will still only be halfway up the height of the tyre and bulldozing deep snow still unless you fit portals at which you'll only be...

    S3 200tdi - thank you

due to the different timing case on the def' 200tdi the injector pump clashes with the offside chassis mount so requires replacing/relocating the 300tdi has the oil filter head mounted in a different place to the 2.25 and 200tdi so again requires the offside chassis mount relocating/replacing...

    starting issues

crack open an injector pipe and see if you're getting fuel up there if no fuel it's time to check the solenoid is getting electricity just because it's getting electricity doesn't mean the solenoid hasn't died (infrequently happens) and refuses to lift the stop plunger, this can be checked by...

300tdi auto disco breaking in Birmingham

engine is already sold but the rest is for stripping, message me with your requirements, all body panels are in good to excellent condition, sills, boot floor and front inner arches are toast which is the reason for breaking Cheers Pete

    Straight 6 rebuild

get a good seam sealer to seal your drip rail rather than trying to weld it should it then eventually rot out it'll be far easier to replace if it's only spot welded as per original

    Hello !

don't confuse the chap you'll be surprised with what you can get away with, i've a 3.54 in the rear axle and a 4.7 in the front, on loose and slippery surfaces i can still use 4x4 without breaking things

    Hello !

i'd do your own searches rather than pay the price of the one linked above, with postage that works out at well over 100quid for just a diff  check your local landrover club out or put a wanted advert on a forum or two

    Hello !

the ebay diff is a 3.54:1 ratio that means the input (pinion) rotates 3.54 times to one rotation of the rear wheels when travelling in a straight line (or to one rotation of the crownwheel) i very much doubt you want this diff did your speedo read reasonably accurately before things got busted...

    Hello !

having a diff rebuilt is damned expensive, 4.7s are not in anything like short supply and you should be able to find a secondhand one for peanuts or even a complete spare rear axle for under 50quid repair the diff pan, there is possibly a problem with welding it though as it's ex-coastguard it...
