    LED Instrument Lights

Early TD5 Defender instrument lights: Having to change my speedo from KMH to MPH I thought I would upgrade the instrument lights while I was in there. I ordered a set of LED lights suitable for all Defenders (so it said...) Kit did not have any for the speedo. I used 2 LEDs for heater controls...

Anyone taken apart an electronic speedo?

Good news - I have a lovely new dial to stick onto my KPH speedo. Less good news - I can't work out how to get into it! There are 3 torx screws in the back, but it looks as though these hold the PCB on the housing. Any offers?

    Tyre Advice.....?

I deliberated for ages before going for 235/85/16 BFG AT on my Wolf rims. Very pleased with them so far. Seem ok on the few occasions I have been in proper mud and surprisingly good on the motorway. Not much experience of the alternatives, though.

Anyone taken apart an electronic speedo?

I have found a couple of companies that supply screen printed dials to fit the original speedo. No need for reprogramming. Lockwood do these for £55. I was bidding on a second hand unit that is currently at £103 and will probably sell for more. The car it came from has probably done between...

Anyone taken apart an electronic speedo?

I have a LHD Defender X reg, year 2000 with speedo in KMH. Considering a dial conversion from Lockwood or KMH-MPH. It looks as though the speedo needs to be taken apart and the needle removed and replaced. Has anyone done this successfully? Is it pull off, screwed on...

Anyone able to identify this connector? (Behind fuse box)

I need some of that replacement smoke, but I'm sure mine was imperial. Anyone sell it in pints?

    Windscreen wash fluid

I think methanol is good for keeping the washer bottle from freezing but it evaporates from the nozzles and they freeze up. I used several different types of cheap screenwash in the past few years and had a few that became gloopy in the summer so I had to take the whole system apart and clean...

    Oil level rising

I hope this turns out to just be O rings. I did mine before I changed the head. Had a really good look around the injectors and found no cracks. Sadly in my case it was the head. No water in the oil, just diesel. When did the new heads come in? I seem to remember it was 2002 - although a...

    LHD Defenders in the UK

I have just been reading about KPH speedos in the UK. Opinion seems split, but I have seen the following : Motor Vehicles (Con & Use) Regs, 1986 Reg 35: Motor Vehicle shall be fitted with a speedometer which, if the vehicle was first used on or after 1st of April 1984 and is registered in the...

    Oil level rising

My 2000 TD5 had this problem. I changed injector seals to no avail. Also the wiring harness. Ended up putting on a new Spanish head which had a better casting with stronger fuel galleries. From memory it was about £1100 for the head and about the same for fitting. When removing the old head...

    LHD Defenders in the UK

When I bought my ex MOD LHD Defender I planned to change to RHD straight away. After driving it for an hour or two I completely changed my mind. I really don't enjoy having my dominant arm jammed against the door in RHD. I'm much more comfortable in a left hooker. Mine still has KPH speedo...

    Steering gets stiff when warm

Help needed with an X reg 110 TD5 Defender, please. All is well when cold but after about 20 mins of driving the steering gets stiff when the wheel is turned more than about 20 degrees about any given point. If I were to turn the wheel an amount to the left it would be ok between that point...
