    Top gear special

Not really, a Classic with decent condition EAS could have managed the same trip I am sure. Only real risk is a punctured air spring, but then he was risking a snapped coil and leafers risk snapped leaf springs...everything has it's pro's and con's!

What makes the Disco II such a popular overlander?

I've noticed recently that whilst in LR circles the trusty 110 is still the defacto Overland vehicle due to it robust nature, ease of maintenance (pre-Td5, anyway!), reasonable reliability and versatility, the Disco II is becoming more and more popular. Sat in a traffic jam opposite two Disco...

    p38 and snow

Doesn't sound right, it's not that cold in the UK! Warm the handle with warm water, then once it's free cover the internals with WD40 to force the water out and stop it refreezing.

just paid £400 for tax and MOT'd p38 few niggles need advice

Thanks to you both, Kev & Datatek - very useful to know!

    p38 and snow

What car? If it's a Classic Vogue SE the door locks are heated, so if you hold the handle out for 30 seconds it should defrost... :)

Any electrical guru's in the South East fancy helping a fellow owner out?

Kev - thank you so much, that's really helpful! Mine is a 1994 soft dash, but it can't be that different. Annoyingly the armrest/cubby box removal means removing the whole transmission tunnel, unlike on the earlier ones where the inner of the cubby box unscrews and lifts out - great design...

Any electrical guru's in the South East fancy helping a fellow owner out?

Thanks Kev, that's a fair old list to work through and it's the "check grounds" and "check continuity" I'm not to sure about! I've got a multimeter with a continuity function on it, but not 100% how I should be testing these things... On the surnoof, what should line up with the white mark? On...

    10 spline to 24 spline

Was gonna say, later RRC's had 24 spline diffs too!

    Mechanics in Maidenhead, Berkshire

    1. Well done! 2. Goodyer 4x4 in Coleshill are a very highly regarded Land Rover mechanic, I use them and they are reasonably priced too. Only about 30 minutes from you (A404, M40, off at Beaconsfield, they are on the A355 to Amersham) 3. A decent set of A/T tyres should do the trick; BF Goodrich...

Any electrical guru's in the South East fancy helping a fellow owner out?

Yah I'd like to DIY them but I'm not overly experienced and lack a bit of confidence in tackling such things!! Checked under the seat and cannot see any dodgy wires hanging out or anything! Also checked the cruise control vacuum pipes, no problems that I can see, but both the cruise control...

Any electrical guru's in the South East fancy helping a fellow owner out?

How are you with other issues then?! ;) I made a slightly terrifying list of the outstanding problems I need to sort and whilst I want to do as much as I can myself, I don't have the knowledge/confidence to tackle everything! There's nothing major really, just annoyances: Electrical: Sunroof...

Any electrical guru's in the South East fancy helping a fellow owner out?

You might be thinking of the electrical nightmare that is the P38! Mine is a Classic, albeit a late model so does have several ECU's, but nowhere near as many as a P38 does!! We have chickens, so the eggs are nice and fresh! No pig though...

p38 1995 manual diesel crabbing on ice?

I'm surprised you got stuck - what wheels/tyres are on there? Sounds odd that the T/C didn't help you out - on that model year the T/C is on all 4 wheels, so should have transferred power over to the non-spinning side. Did you keep the throttle on or ease off? In that situation it is best to...

I got that the wrong way round - oops! Edited to suit ;) Will this mod work on an RRC? Could be useful in Morocco...

p38 1995 manual diesel crabbing on ice?

Definitely not road camber? Does it always go the same way? First port of call, I'd get the tracking checked out.

Sunroof and windows: with ignition in position II, open and close them fully, should clear the fault code. I'd be concerned about the overheating - should be able to idle even without the fan! Easy to test it - get a rolled up newspaper and at idle, stick in in the fan - if it stops the fan...

    Chains Front or Rear

Says the same in the RRC manual - but can't think why LR ones only on the front and non-LR ones only on the rear??

My Range Rover Classic expedition project (ongoing, pics etc)

It was already cracked! I didn't take it all the way off in the end, I had to on my last RRC for something and it is one of the most tedious jobs ever, removing that front splitter!! So I released the bolts I needed and pulled it out the way to allow me to push them out enough to fit the...
