I looked at a Haynes but it is all a bit complex and I don't want to confuse what the garage has or hasn't done. I really want them to sort it out but they imply it might not be down to what they did-although, as I say, it was fine before they touched it. I'm UK

Thanks for that - I agree 8 weeks is a crazy amount of time. Yes it is a 2.25 diesel. I am completely at a loss technically-wise on how to deal with it.
