Converting a manual to a P38 ZF auto

What about the drive shafts? Can they be reused or does an auto require different lengths?

Converting a manual to a P38 ZF auto

Hi Zen. It will be an Ashcroft box and their Compushift system. One thing that JE do with the drivetrain (and I'm using them for the Quaife rear diff and uprated shafts and springs etc) is they pin the front diff. I know you played around with your diffs, what is the upside of pinning the...

Converting a manual to a P38 ZF auto

It won't be an issue as it will be an uprated box from Ashcroft to handle the 400 BHP :D But, model or power or strength isn't an issue. I'm just supposing that as the vehicle is an early manual then there could be big work to convert to auto.

Converting a manual to a P38 ZF auto

The HP 24 is tougher than the 22, but I guess both have same fittings? Didn't the P38 lose the separate Hi/Lo stick as well that was in the Classic HP 22 box? I imagine that fitting either is very similar if not the same, so would discover the same issues when ditching the original 4 speed...

Converting a manual to a P38 ZF auto

How messy is it to convert a 70s Rangie to the P38 spec ZF box? I have a suspicion that the shape of the transmission tunnel could be problematic?

Why Are (Decent) Replacement Engines So Expensive

I would hazard that a large part of the high costs by comparison to 20 years ago are down to a combination of much higher bureaucratic costs for businesses, higher taxes, more taxes, raw material costs have trippled/quadrupled, cost of labour has gone up etc etc. Doing anything today is...

The Overfinch was a tremendous car, loved it, but I only bought it because I couldn't find the perfect 2 door, which I managed to do earlier this year. It sold within a week of being up for £45k so there is a keen market at the top end. I'll start the 2 door early next year. Have you got...

Hi Mike. On and off. I've been busy this year with the TVR project but finally got round to putting the Overfinch up for sale and it appears to have now sold. Should allow me to start on the 2 door. How are you?

    £13k classic!

Apparently it has sold so it's purely informational :D Might be a record for a 4 door Classic.

    P38 dash into a Classic?

No offense meant. :D The reason for this tack is that we are looking to move the ICE system into the centre console, rather than down by the driver. This cannot be done conventionally due to the heater matrix etc. If we re-fabricate the lower central element of the original dash so that we...

    P38 dash into a Classic?

I had originally thought about a Disco but was under the impression that the Classic soft dash was the Disco dash? If so it is not what I am looking for. Using a P38 dash may save much time and work in the fabrication process if starting from scratch.

    P38 dash into a Classic?

Thanks. It's interesting that it may be wider as that can be solved. If it's shorter then it's more complex. The real hurdle is the rear face against the bulkhead. If it is curved then differing radius will be a problem. Hopefully they are both straight in that lovely communist era way...

    P38 dash into a Classic?

I assume that you don't know, hence your pointless and pathetically condescending post. If you do have any relevant information then I would be very grateful to learn from it. Otherwise you can go **** yourself. Thanks.

    P38 dash into a Classic?

What I'm interested in is the actual physical parts, not the components or gubbins. I'm interested in whether it will physically fit.

    P38 dash into a Classic?

Is that to the point of not worth considering? I thought about butchering a soft dash but the p38 set up looks more modern.

    P38 dash into a Classic?

Pondering this one. It's about dimensions not the electronics etc. None of the internals other than the heating system would be retained. All switchgear etc gone so no wiring to be concerned about. The question is how much do the width dimensions and others change between the models?

Nerd alert warning: Bright blue eggs will be a robin. Pale blue a blackbird cream with a chocolate dusting like a Cadbury mini egg is a wren. Cream with brown/rust speckles is house sparrow. Finch eggs are very similar to sparrow eggs. At which point you'd need to look at the shape of...
