    300TDi Squeeling belt 'Penny Trick'

Ta. Something else for the shelf...owning a Landy needs a lot of storage space.

    300TDi Squeeling belt 'Penny Trick'

I got 2 of these for the spares box and tried to use one a while back. I found it quite loose fit in the tensioner, so much that I didn't trust it and tried the other one with the same result. Tried 'em both in an old tensioner with the same result, so it's the bearing that's very slightly...

300tdi - cruise control or "hands off" throttle control.

I'd like to set up a mechanical control that'll let me set a fixed throttle for the winch and also for motorway cruising. This needs to be possible to set from a Bowden cable - for the winch - but an immediate disconnect if I press the gas pedal or brake. I'm experimenting with levers and...

Which way do you point your snorkel intake, and why?

While I don't have any extra filtering, my air filter collects very little dust even in really bad conditions (Morocco dry lakes etc), so taking the air from higher up seems to be a major advantage. And it points backwards.

Which way do you point your snorkel intake, and why?

Tried that. Lots of wind noise at high(er) speeds. Plenty of opinions here, some can be taken seriously ;)...if all else is equal I think I'll stick with "backwards". The ram air effect only really works for NACA ducts at the speed we travel, water ingress isn't normally a problem unless there's...

Which way do you point your snorkel intake, and why?

I see both forward and backward. Mine is backward since the idea, as I understand it, is to avoid drawing water and/or dust into the engine. From my experience of driving behind people in dust and sand, and splashing through rivers, the obvious answer is "backwards". Any views on this?

    Defender tip-up rear seat

Anyone got one with the Landrover logo (or not) that they might want to sell? For a 1995 model.

    Our new vehicle

It'll be interesting to see your "final cut" given the options and how we all want the same end result. FWIW, we think that if you eventually fit an Alucab roof, the furniture and fittings you install now won't be high enough, assuming you want to stand up while cooking etc. Since doing those...

    Our new vehicle

We've been around this course too, and decided in the end that a lifting roof/sleeping area was the way ahead. This has just (this week!) been fitted, but you can get an idea of the evolution of our "stealth camper" here https://onetentotantan.blogspot.com/ We still have to decide how to re-fit...

    Hannibal Awning

Ta. I managed to get a part for my tent from Nene a short time ago, so worth giving them a call if you need something they might have left on a shelf. I got the last ladder bit.

    Wanted Frontier type stove

I don't know about the Ozpig, but the Frontier stoves are overrated. I have one. It's great for Occupational Therapy, or if you have nothing else to do but stoke it, fettle it and generally try to keep it going. Hungry for fuel and a pain to clean and repack without getting filthy...

    Defender door hinges?

I've just changed my rusty old ones for shiny stainless. OK, from Britpart, but seem reasonable quality if a little roughly finished. They don't rattle, anyway. Took the opportunity to spray the inside of the pillars with wax- can't hurt, can it? This seemed the best option after spending hours...

Its of metal in transfer box oil

+1 to all. My refurb'ed Ashcroft box had a few bits of metallic crud on the drain plug after 1500 miles, which I reckon is the usual build debris. Unless everything meshes perfectly (unlikely), a "new" box is going to generate a little metallic debris as it beds in.

    Vibration through steering wheel

I don't believe that the steering damper is relevant to the problem you have. FWIW, I had a similar problem that turned out to be the Panhard rod bushes, but there are a number of potential culprits. All are easy to fix but not diagnose!

Scotland / wild camp / camping sites?

Either that or allow yourself plenty of time to find that elusive "perfect" spot. They do exist, but nobody who regularly wild camps in the Highlands is going to tell you where they are :)!
