    Battery Installation - Defender 90

The retaining rods shouldn't just drop out, they should be hooked at the end, connect to the slots at the bottom of the battery-box and be enclosed on the underside. Have attached some photos of when I had my battery-box galvanised, shows it very clearly. If the tags aren't there then I presume...

SOLD - Land Rover Ninety (Defender 90) 300TDi Auto soft-top

A couple of new photos taken when I was out earlier today.

    2.8TGV engine swap

The South American issue is not a problem as such, the normal 300TDi was manufactured there when they shut the UK manufacturing capacity to provide powerplants for the ROW spec TDi vehicles still being manufactured (inc MOD vehicles). 100% spares compatibility. My own 300TDi was manufactured in...

I would just like to say

I took early retirement earlier this year (a sprightly 57) and to give my week a bit of structure and provide some pocket-money I applied at a couple of local supermarkets (Sainsbury & Tesco). The application process and rewards (pay, discounts & pension) was very similar for both but I decided...

    300tdi Manual to Auto conversion

Not at all. If you have a knackered engine which is hauling around an overloaded 110 then yes, I guess it would be sluggish. My engine is still in excellent fettle (59K miles from new) and my 90 is not carrying loads of unnecessary gear so it is positively sprightly. :D Before I did my...

    300tdi Manual to Auto conversion

No, seatbox & tunnel remained standard, just had to drill new holes in the centre-plate to mount the shifter. The good thing about the Ashcroft kit is that it was all nuts & bolts, the only thing I changed was the oil-cooler pipes as they supplied flexible ones whereas I went with the solid...

    300tdi Manual to Auto conversion

Sorry, don't know of any workshops as I do all work myself. :( There are plenty of independent LR workshops dotted around, I guess you need to find one of those and get them to rip the guts out of an old Disco1 auto.

    300tdi Manual to Auto conversion

If you do a search my thread will come up, I did mine a few years back using an Ashcroft kit and ran a thread at the time. Best thing I did, makes the vehicle so enjoyable and easy to drive. :D 👍

    Defender 90 SOLD

Still here. Haven't advertised it yet, needs to be gone by next March (at the absolute latest) but will be listing it on Autotrader etc over the (late) summer. My listing on here was to test the water and if someone wanted it (either now or in a few months time) then I would just do without it...

Remember seeing that at Billing yonks ago. Nicely done and great fun. :D

    Billet Aluminium Door Hinges

Where did you get the idea that Optimill hinges are plastic coated? Had them for years and mine aren't, just looked at the website and it makes no mention (that I can see) of them being coated.

Front grill and light surround replacement advice

Know exactly what you mean about the plastic grill & surrounds. Although I wanted a Stage-1 grill (LOVED the Stage-1 front end when it came out all those years ago and I was still a youth :vb-heart-smiley: ) I opted for the Nakatanenga grill & metal surrounds, look better than standard plastic...

SOLD - Land Rover Ninety (Defender 90) 300TDi Auto soft-top

Ok, I had hoped this day was far away but my recent retirement, relocation (and order of a new motorcaravan!) means that my beloved 90 has to be sold. 😭 It is no stranger to this forum (if you search my user name you will see some of the work I have done on threads I created) but I have tried...

Hi. Saw you asking for more details about a 1996 90 which the owner is thinking of selling. My 300TDi 90 Auto will be for sale this summer as after nearly 40-years I am giving up LR ownership. You will have seen it on here many times but this is a pic. Let me know if at all interested. Regards...

How close is the front edge to the bulkhead, do you need to shim the bulkhead back a little?

    300TDi Auto Conversion

Still loving it although I rarely get to use the LR nowadays (801-miles last year) but I still maintain it was one of the best things I have ever done to the LR. :D Followed up with a new chassis 3-years ago (wasn't necessary as original chassis was in fine condition but it was "something to...

    Indicator mystery...

To completely eliminate it being an earth problem, run a temporary wire from the battery -VE terminal to the lights or at least the common earth point. Don't waste time routing it properly, just get a decent length piece of wire and run it point to point. Will prove the earth once and for all.

Later Defender or Discovery alloy wheels compatible with 1988 Defenders?

It is according to Ben Fogle! His (awful) book termed all Series & coilers "Defender" (and he got suitably hammered for it). I was given three copies of that book and would have given them all away but one copy was the last book ever given to me by my later father (a LR lover) so I...
