    HEVAC trouble, no AC

Aha, so there's one blend motor which distributes air through or around the heat exchanger, depending on commands from the hevac unit? That sounds like a plausible explanation. Henrik

    HEVAC trouble, no AC

Hi all, The car is a 97HSE. I have just replaced my leaky AC condenser and had a refill of gas. Hey presto, my AC was working again. However, this only lasted a few days. I am now getting no cool air at all. I can hear the gas working in the system, and I gave the small service valve on the...

    Replacing my 4.6 V8 engine

Replacement is in, all bolted up and hooked up, runs as sweet as a nut!:) Thanks for all help, job done. Henrik

    P38 becm?

I would suspect so, yes. Indicators are more likely linked to the security system than the radio, even in a Range Rover... On a 1970's Alfasud, that's not necessarily the case:D On a serious note, get your key fixed and lock the car, you probably won't have the indicator problem again. As for...

    engine struggling

No, throttle position makes no difference in a compression test. It should be done by spinning the starter with ignition or fuel disabled - you do not want the engine running on the other 7 cylinders while you're doing the test!!:D You could be in luck though, as I'm thinking it may also be...

    Replacing my 4.6 V8 engine

Replacement engine now has new head gaskets and bolts, exhaust and starter have been transferred from old engine. I hope to transfer the cable loom today and maybe even hoist the lump back in the engine bay. The old head gaskets had clearly been blowing in two places, so changing them turned out...

    engine struggling

I hate to be the one to pint this out, but it sounds a bit like your head gasket may be leaking. If it were the exhaust, I wouldn't expect that you could feel a significant lack of power. Weak compression from a blown gasket would do that though...

    radio nightmare

Is it really that easy? Does it convert the output from the new unit to match the input of the built-in amps in the car? How about steering wheel controls, do they work? If it really is a plug-and-play conversion i'm going for it, but would like to hear from someone who's tried it. Mine is the...

    radio nightmare

Hi, Aftermarket compatibility with the door-monted amps and sub isn't straightforward, that's why the radios are so sought-after second hand. If the display is dark, it's most likely just the illumination bulbs that are shot. They're fairly easy to replace if you don't mind cracking it open...

    Replacing my 4.6 V8 engine

Hi all, Old engine is OUT! :) I did it as described by Sandy, by removing the engine mounts and lowering the engine to gain access to top bellhousing bolts. I even managed to pull it out without removing either of the exhaust manifods, but this may be a lhd-only option. I had to remove the heat...

    diff oil change

Haha! Aren't we all eager to help:clap2:

    diff oil change

There should be two plugs, one at the bottom and one further up the diff housing. Undo both to drain through the bottom. Reinstall bottom plug and fill through the other hole. This hole also serves as a level indicator - level is correct when oil just drips out the bottom edge of this hole.

    4.6 Head Gaskets

Hi all, I'm replacing my 4.6 Gems engine (which blew a gasket thanks to probably a cracked block) with another identical but lower milage engine. I'm thinking - would it be a good idea to replace the head gaskets on the replacement engine, now that it's on a pallet? I have new gaskets and bolts...

Diary of a first time Range Rover owner

If a new battery on jump leads didn't crank it, another new one will be just the same. That is if your jump leads aren't totally inadequate (in which case they would probably catch fire - which you'd notice). I'm afraid you'll need to get some help. You need someone underneath the car to check...

Diary of a first time Range Rover owner

If you're not getting any "engine disabled" messages it won't be your receiver. If you can hear it click, it's either your starter or your battey. Hook it up to a healthy car battery (boosters are usually very weak if tot fairly new and freshly charged) and try again. They do need a strong...

    Eas gone nuts

Second that, Wammers. Mine had the same sort of issue, and I had all sorts of ideas about what was at fault. It's dead easy: if your compressor is gone, replace or refurbish it before you look for anything else to mess with. I bought a smart-plug EAS reset thingy off ebay to clear the faults...

    Replacing my 4.6 V8 engine

BTW, Sandy, I like your choice of vehicles:) I've always had an Alfa of some description, currently a 75 3.0, and I'm also a huge Jag fan. I only ever had one, an xj12, but I miss it dearly and dream of a newer supercharged model.

    Replacing my 4.6 V8 engine

Again, thanks a bunch! I will surely be in touch when I get started. I've ordered a new waterpump, viscous fan coupling, filters and plugs for the replacement engine. Anything else I'll be needing? Exhaust gaskets maybe? Henrik

    Liquid or gel wiring insulation???

Keep in mind that it goes off rather quickly, so work fast when you're done mixing. Cheers, Henrik

    Liquid or gel wiring insulation???

Hi Sandy, We use scotchcast 2130 (by 3M) a lot where I work and it's great stuff for repairing and sealing cracked cable jackets. You can smear it on with a brush or pour it in a mold built from masking tape or similar. Henrik
