    S2 pickup

I wouldn't bother trying to repair a civvy type tank like that - replacements are a reasonable price. Military (underseat fill) tanks are much more expensive for no apparent good reason that I can see. Possibly worth repair, but you'd have to sweat off the undershield to get at all the rot

    Injector Pump leaking Diesel

I think I've got about five pumps lying around in various states of disrepair. I'll have a practice on one of those before I attack the one I'm running on. Starts and runs really well on this one, so I really don't want to start swapping pumps again.

    Injector Pump leaking Diesel

Sorry, my mistake, I meant the throttle shaft, or more correctly, the governor control shaft, if I'm remembering what I was taught about diesel fuel systems correctly

    Injector Pump leaking Diesel

Well, considering that you made that post twelve days ago, and nobody replied to your question, I'm assuming that you found the relevant information elsewhere. I swapped out the old dog of a pump I fitted to my 2.5 (with timing chain conversion), for a pump which had been lying in a box for...

Land Rover series 3 Daihatsu diesel

You want to find out who made the conversion kit in the first place. Likely suspects could be Steve Parker Land Rovers, W E Phillips, or Motor and Diesel Engineering. If the adapter ring is cast aluminium, the makers name might be on the casting

    Series 2 Bertha - 1971 Series 2a LWB

I agree with that. If you want something restored to as new condition, you'd be better off finding the straightest, most un-mutilated, original vehicle you can afford. Starting with a battered old workhorse will cost a lot more by the time you've finished. I'd swap out that Frankenstein...

    Horn and flash problem

I think on the series three the stalk switch carries the main headlamp current, no relays. The original switch lasts a decent length of time, but when it fails, owners tend to fit Britpart replacements, and they don't stand up well to the high current. OK with a couple of decent relays...

Series three heater matrix blowing cold

Your logic is faultless. If I get time this afternoon, I'll be taking the offending matrix out for examination.

    109" shackles on 88"

Can't see that making any noticeable difference. Both your axles will be rotated ever so slightly, maybe a degree or two, if that. At the front it will very slightly alter either the castor or camber angle of the steering (I forget which now 'cos I'm going senile) which theoretically may...

    109" shackles on 88"

Not messed with 109 stuff for a very long time. Presumably the 109 shackles are longer. How much longer ?

Series three heater matrix blowing cold

I thought that you had to make the box bigger. Maybe not. Anyway I know that I've got a brand new S3 matrix somewhere (although it's Britpart not OE) Worth giving it a try I'd have thought before resorting to more radical measures. Remember that I already have the standard 2A heater which...

Series three heater matrix blowing cold

Not as hot as I'd like it to be. And thinking about it, it never has quite lived up to expectations. I've just remembered that I've got a brand new series three matrix kicking around somewhere, leftover from a previous project. Just a case of hunting it down before I go any further

Series three heater matrix blowing cold

From memory, I just chopped out a rectangular hole in the NS footwell and sealed the joint with household draft proofing strips, the sticky back ones, plus maybe a touch of silicone sealant. Doubt if it's failed to any great extent. Unfortunately, I tack welded a steel grille over the...

Series three heater matrix blowing cold

I've got a dual heater set up on my 1970 88 diesel. Hot coolant comes from the bypass outlet near the thermostat, flows into a series three heater box/matrix, then from there into the original type flat square heater, and finally back to the rear union on the cylinder head. Now the flat type...

series 3 - conversion from drum to disc brakes

I think the big advantage of discs is going to be fade resistance when stopping from high speeds or repeatedly braking hard with a heavy load. Might not actually be worthwhile for a lot of series owners considering the lowly level of performance. The late series three set up with a good servo...

Anyone successfully re-cored a Smiths flat heater ?

One thing that always annoys me is people telling me that I must be freezing in my 88. A good canvas tilt well fitted is much warmer than an uninsulated hard top and you don't get icy cold drips landing on the back of your neck.

Anyone successfully re-cored a Smiths flat heater ?

If you think that Land Rover heaters are bad, you should try going through a harsh winter in a Citroën 2CV. Some owners claim the heat exchangers work well, but I suspect they are delusional

Anyone successfully re-cored a Smiths flat heater ?

Going off completely at a tangent, I've often thought that maybe we are all going the wrong way about using engine heat to keep ourselves warm. The greatest two heat sources are the exhaust system, or the main radiator. Why not syphon off some of the air heated by the main radiator ? Just a...

Anyone successfully re-cored a Smiths flat heater ?

Someone was selling one at Malvern parts day the other week. Never asked the price or noticed if it got sold. I did once hear some ex-squaddie joking that they were only any good in the arctic if you actually stuffed the output pipes up your trouser legs !

Anyone successfully re-cored a Smiths flat heater ?

I've got a series three snail blower and matrix mounted on top of the NS footwell. Hot air generated passes straight through a rectangular hole cut in the top face of the footwell. I've got that plumbed in series with the standard 2A flat heater. It gets quite warm on long runs, T shirt warm...
