quite simple...if its being left standing...damp is a worse enemy...i can remember many times a blast of wd40 as worked wonders...poss a bit of damp may be shorting power to a cylinder ..then when its hots up...damp goes..its sitting all week

is it kept in a garage ..if outside may be damp..wd 40 it ...it need a motorway blast for def..blow crap out,,have you cleaned egr...pcv ..crank case filter

has he done a photo collection of work done ...and all bills...can you get it on ramps and see quality of work and any welding

if there wasnt enough results that indicates that the companies they get the figures from ..and warranty direct is one..wouldnt have had that many break downs..another source is public...so again not enough complaints

and that could be a lamba sensor ...

so when cold lamba sensor detects gases temp passing over it sees its to cold and enriches the idle and acceleration mix...so its poss its faulty and not feeding ecu with correct mixture when cold..hence rough idle.. the garages should have checked this out

you can rule out head gasket as if it was it would run fine..warming up..crap when hot...if its fine when warmed up whats the prob..just leave it idle for few mins..could be a lamba sensor that was feeds ecu with engine temp and tells it it needs more fuel/air..and ecu adjusts setting in...
