    What type of puller help.

Thanks for that, it looked like a very slight taper from underneath, just waiting for new lock washer - local LR place has had to order one from the factory. No one else locally has any. As soon as it arrives I'll torque the nut up and lock it off then, yipee:), I can go out and play again. Malcolm

    What type of puller help.

Just about got it all fitted now, but just one question. When the new drop arm is fitted, it doesn't go all the way to the top of the splines although I haven't fully tightened the nut yet. Should I use brute force to get it there or will tightening the nut up to 130ft/lb as per Rave, be...

    What type of puller help.

Well here's what I took off and this is what I had to do to the drop arm to get it off! This will be the new set up, note need a bracket for the damper plus the fact that it's a TRE that fits into the drop arm, so much easier to change if it fails. and this is what the new Disco drop...

    What type of puller help.

Will do, as soon as I can get a new locking washer. The large 60mm one seems a little difficult to come by at the moment and I'm loath to put the old one back. I'm putting the straight Disco arm (with a good dollop of copper grease) on plus heavy duty drag link. As there are TRE's on both ends...

    What type of puller help.

Yes!!! Got it off. A new cutting disc, another cut in the arm and a few thumps with a new hammer has done it. Minor problem is that I've nicked a couple of the splines but I reckon the new arm (Disco straight one) will go on fine. Also I can now put the new steering arm plus tre's on now. A good...

    What type of puller help.

At the moment I'm having a cup of tea whilst I contemplate wtf the arm is made of! After a few more attempts with the lump hammer the head fell off:mad: So out with the angle grinder - first problem, it's not too easy to get to the arm without damaging the bottom of the steering box, secondly...

    What type of puller help.

Same problem here! I've broken one 3 legged puller and 2 days of hitting it with a lump hammer hasn't shifted it at all. Unless there's a clever solution, then Mr angle grinder is coming out to play. Not too keen on that though, as lying underneath with a grinder , there's not a lot of room and...

    Defender Steerin Play

Can't even get the nut off the box  I guess the drop arm will just fall off when I have . Malcolm

    Heater cable help required

Can't work out how to link to it, but go to LR4x4.com and search for "Twang! Now how do I fix it?" in the Defender section for more info. Malcolm

    Heater cable help required

The cable fixes to the lever at the dashboard end just like the hot/cold one does. The other end goes through the parcel shelf (almost under the instrument binnacle) and connects to a bar that holds the 2 flaps that close off the outlet to the footwells. If you're lucky, the inner will be long...

    Defender Steerin Play

I like that idea :) I have to bump it up the kerb to get it into the garage anyway. Probably doesn't appear in the workshop manual but if it saves buying a stupid priced puller or thumping 8 bells out of it might just give it a go.

    Defender Steerin Play

I'm trying to get mine off! I'm changing the drop arm and suspect that after a few choice words Mr angle grinder will be coming out to play.:D Malcolm

    Defender Steerin Play

The 2 mallet trick??? I'm about to take mine off and planned on using the brute force and ignorance approach.

    Need a balljoint in Cheshire!

Yup she's really switched on finding parts. If you'd asked, I wouldn't have been surprised if they couldn't have fitted it for you as well. They're very helpful although they do use Br****rt bits. Malcolm

    Fuel leak, likly places?

Try looking at the spill pipes - the cloth covered one's that return fuel from the injectors. Pull back the covering and flex them. Mine were cracked from age and allowing fuel to weep down onto anything below. Cheap and simple to replace. Malcolm

Front mudflaps - which way round?

The flap fits on the label side, held on by a strip of metal and bolts. and that side also faces the wheel. HTH Malcolm

    Heater help please

I think the idea is that it's supposed to let water drain but stop stuff being spayed in from underneath. The thing is, where the drain valve is situated nothing is going to get in and all that happens is it blocks up like yours (and mine). Either check it regularly, cut the bottom off or pull...

    rear wiper switch

IIRC, there's a spring loaded ball under the shaft. Push it and hold it in with a pointed tool and then the knob should come off. Malcolm
