    Engine change

Just fitted one of these, branded as BGA purchased locally from Fyfes! Mike Satur was supplying these as 'competition head gaskets' quite a few years ago, similar Lotus payen Mk 3 RLVB000320 I was possibly one of the first DIY'rs to fit the LR multi layer steel gasket (LVB500190) back in Jul...

    Engine change

Was it HGF with full fat mayonnaise (emulsified oil and water)? or low fat HGF (coolant is shot out on to the exhaust, no mixing of oil and water) Chances are, if the temperature gauge didn't rise above halfway and no sudden loss of coolant, then the head tends to be spot on and liners still in...

    Engine change

As above, better the devil you know! best to fix the existing engine, you're only buying someone else's problems!! the only way you can condemn a K-series for sure is taking the head off, measuring head tolerances (max warpage 0.05mm) liners flush or proud of the block, and if you're really...

1.8 Clutch Master and Slave System

It's been exactly a year since I did this mod, but the original rubber seal perished in the MG slave cylinder (salvaged from a 2003 MGTF) replacement seals are available and was a straight forward job to do with the bleed valve £7 for the seal, 15p for a 19mm circlip on the push rod, OEM...

1.8 Clutch Master and Slave System

Well she's done!........wasn't a straight forward plug and play but well worth doing for anyone, I'd recommend it I removed the clutch line assembly to bleed on the bench (tip - keep the slave piston in place with a suitable sized G- clamp) Before refilling with brand new hydraulic fluid, I...

1.8 Clutch Master and Slave System

After the slave cylinder exploded on my FL1 last week, I started this mod with an MGF slave cylinder a few days ago, but I have been having trouble getting enough travel to move the clutch release fork. I don't know why Land Rover resorted to the plastic version of both slave and master...

    Defender bits for sale

These were on 235/65 tyres, there was some overlap on the chain, presumably to fit the 235/75 with ease. According to first principles, every 10% rise in the aspect ratio of a 235 tyre gives a 147mm increase in rolling circumference https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=235-75r16-235-85r16...

    Defender bits for sale

The chains are a generous fit covering a good part of the side wall, I would say they would be compatible on wider tyres too? They are draped over a 195 tyre in the picture (1st post) just to demonstrate the depth and width of the chain. I have thought about modifying them to fit the Freelander...

Need cheap Left Hand Drive 4x4 for Madagascar - Freelander a good choice?

How patriotic......... now you know the dilemma Darwin faced when he was in Madagascar !!... only he was funded by his wealthy grandfather of Wedgewood pottery. £4k is a substantial budget for any vehicle, all depends how long you will be out there, question is what do you do with the vehicle...

Max Load in back of freelander?

I don't know where the CWN webpage got that info from ?? As the payload was never listed in the official LR brochures, only cubic capacity, and it's 1500 Litres for the commercial FL1, not 1400 L as stated in the CWN webpage
