Front suspension clonk - world record for making a simple thing complicated?

I replaced me front ARB links a few weeks back, and thought I'd try some super-cheap ones off eBay for s**ts and giggles, these ones: Land Rover Discovery Mk2 Front Left or Right Drop Link | eBay Trouble was, I couldn't get the axle-end nuts up to 100Nm before the threads stripped, so I...

symptoms of a failing steering damper

Tyres? I changed from Goodyear Wranglers to Grabber ATs on my Disco, and the difference was stunning. Now rock solid on the waviest of dual carriageways, such as that rutted bit of the A38 outside the Toyota factory at Burnaston

D2 noise when cornering old chestnut

Interesting you have the grabbers, I get something similar on same tyre but in my case most noticeable when the disco pitches over bumps on the straight. In your case could be roll in corners, and in both cases the woo woo noise is just the load on the tyre cycling at some fractional hertz I'm...

How I fixed my bent tailgate hinges

Had a bituvva mishap with the tailgate a few weeks ago which resulted in the bottom hinge bending inwards, causing the handle/latch side of the tailgate to kick upwards by 5 to 10 mm and thus miss the striker when closing. I was on holiday at the time (sloping car park at St. Ives was the...

    Unusual SLS Fault

Could your local 4x4 garage get hold of a coil conversion kit at short notice? Got our TD5 D2 converted the first time we hit a major SLS issue after we acquired her, and we've never looked back - I mean, there's only 1 thing can go wrong with a spring! Only rub is I didn't do the job meself...

    Front wiper relay diode

Front wiper played up over the weekend (not parking itself on intermittent or flick) so thought I'd pull up the circuit diagram in RAVE and mug up before I tried any fault-finding (disco is 51 plate TD5). To the chase: there's a diode G126 in the circuit diagram which seems to connect the park...

Any experience of the AA or RAC?

One thing with the AA: watch your renewal price like a hawk. Ours crept up year on year until it was double the price we'd signed up for a few years previously, then when I called them for a good old moan they were mysteriously able to offer me half price. Mind you, they were adamant there would...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Changed oil and filters. Had a little sleuth over some leaks - water leak is coming from pump casting weep hole, Q&H pump ordered. Oil leak looks like joint between turbo and oil return - bolts weren't nipped, tightened, will see if that helps matters.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Did what I thought was prelimary fault-find on engine failing to warm up, fully expecting to be ordering a new stat at the end of it (TD5 disco - needle stays at 1/3, rarely getting to 1/2 like it's suppsed to) Checked ECT sensor resitance with multimeter, all within spec. Checked for...

What have you done to your Landie today.

This w/e: investigated binding brake on rear right. Found little tear in piston bellows and heavily corroded surface on piston. Spose I could muck about with an seal overhaul kit and an emery cloth, but after the brute force and ignorance I used to get to a diagnosis my guess is the piston bore...

    wanders on tarmac

+1 - or even excessive wear on decentish road tyres. I swapped from approaching-bald Goodyear Wrangler HP to new Grabber AT before the w/e and it seems to have cured my wandering/tramlining woes on tarmac

What have you done to your Landie today.

Took new Grabber AT's for a play in the snow. I'm no tyre connoisseur, but they seemed very happy climbing steep snowy roads, with no intervention from TC. But what was *really* noticeable was tarmac manners at 60/70 - the familiar borderline-lethal wandering/tramlining of the previous set is...

Sadly not, but definitely going out for a play with em tomorrow

What have you done to your Landie today.

Got 5 new General Grabber AT's fitted. Old set were Goodyear Wrangler HP and had worn somewhat, ahem, slick

Currently broken down: car wont start + gearbox lights

1/ Try waggling the gear selector all the way up and down through the gears a few times? (From memory, I don't think it would even turn over if it was bad/contaminated XYZW, but seeing as you have nothing better to do, it'll keep you warm ;)) 2/ Get the bonnet up and check red plug on ECU for...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Fixed dickie seat that wouldn't lock upright Re-attached trim panel to driver's seat, with the help of some judicious whittling on the crappy push-fit placcy plugs Fault finding on heated front screen - 170 ohm both sides, so I guess it's Just Knackered Replaced locking wheelnuts I chewed up...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Replaced front shocks on D2 with a pair of Terrafirma AT's Bottom bushes on old set were shot, and I don't have the right gear to press the bushes in and out, so decided to just change the shocks. Think I might have left it a tiny bit too long tho... Best bit was getting 10yr old daughter...

    Hello from Derbyshire

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum having lurked for a few weeks My story so far: recently purchased a Disco TD5 Auto with 85k on the clock from local dealer. She seems to be in fine fettle save for a couple of teething troubles which I'm guessing are familiar to forum regulars: rain...
