Advice sought re. 'End of life' Discovery2

I'm not sure anyone one can answer that question other than mister hindsight, but as it takes 23-27 grand to find out that's a goodly gamble. Hah, thanks for the concern but I bought her old car for myself as a spare and run it with the landy, so it was generously loaned back to her on all...

Advice sought re. 'End of life' Discovery2

My take from this is: Money is not the driving factor Having transport is mandatory (I know the feeling) Ideally a more capable vehicle is preferred Logical thing is to simply keep the D2 - which is a quality looked after machine, and have work done that needs doing - while also having a...

    2.5 NA wont rev

Odds are either the governor weights are stuck solid or the collar / metering sleeve which controls plunger travel is jammed. Taking the pump off for stripping and reconditioning would be the sensible option, but if you're up for some cocking about you might be able to free it off with some...

Disco 1 Brakes: stopping power not always there

The easiest test to check the system is, while parked and engine off - Pump brakes up until rock hard, hold your foot firmly on the pedal to maintain pressure Start the engine - pedal should drop about an inch further fairly quickly. If the pedal needs two pumps once the engine is running to...

Disco 1 Brakes: stopping power not always there

If you have poor braking performance and get no lockup / abs pulsation when you need it most I'd check the vacuum pump first, then the booster - as long as you know the system has no leaks / isn't full of air (and that there is some meat left on the pads to boot!)

    300 Tdi Rebuild

Can't remember exactly what I paid, but I had two lines off a project car re-hosed with 2 new fittings, 3-4 years ago and that was cheaper than buying two brand new hoses. Cheapest thing though would be take up (or send) your original leaky hose with the stubby fitting, and just have them fix...

    300 Tdi Rebuild

Aye it's odd that. Have you got a birds eye view pic of yours? Just that you know there is acceptable flow through the cooler and it's working, bit like the pipes to your heater matrix. Both would be cool if there was a severe restriction

    300 Tdi Rebuild

Theres a reasonable spattering of Pirtek's up past the wall, I've got the one in Portsmouth to do work via post before. Looks like Kwakerman has exactly the same hose again though, so if one hose is hot and the other cooler, alls well :)

    300 Tdi Rebuild

Well, you said it was sharp and have no disappointed us . Don't think it would close it up enough inside to really make a difference to the oil pressure, but you could have a 90 degree metal bend fitted on at any hydraulic place for peace of mind?

    300 Tdi Rebuild

6 months or so i think? Maybe it's less of a bend on the disco. Will have to remind myself tomorrow, will grab a pic if its worth anything.

    300 Tdi Rebuild

It should bend to 90 degrees fairly easily without deforming, don't think it will be detrimental to oil flow. I didn't look to hard, suppose it might be possible to get an old stock original somewhere if too concerning?

    300 Tdi Rebuild

James gave the right part numbers, I had the same blank "I've bought the wrong one" moment on my disco, new outlet fitting from the oil filter housing much longer than the old one. Don't know why but the new style has superseded the old pipe, which you can't get new anymore. I just set the heat...

Disco 1 The comfiest seat (Need some suggestions!)

Probably be leather from the bayerische motoren werke then. Nice and affordable to boot :). I'll add some picture after allowing 6 months of backache from the ruined seat I have at the moment haha

That's what I couldn't remember the name of, best feeling after an hour in the car you slide that out for round two

Disco 1 The comfiest seat (Need some suggestions!)

Just had a peep on ebay, those certainly hold value better than other other 20+ year old heaps! guess it's the 1JZ following. Made me think about the more recent IS seats as well :). Nothing better than that first leg stretch when cruise goes on... I've had a few, very good even when they're...

Disco 1 The comfiest seat (Need some suggestions!)

Evening all - the time has come to bung a new drivers seat into the disco, as I've gained 4 inches extra headroom following a modest pothole on the weekend (and a unique sensation in the nether regions when it happened ). The lumbar support mechanism is also munched, so I'm going to swap a...

    300 Tdi Rebuild

I did! Was pondering the driveway honing today, maybe you could cut the bottom off of some medium sized paint / thinner tins and have a few cracks practicing on those in advance of the main event? Fingers crossed again for the discovered potential easy fix.

    300 Tdi Rebuild

Not an enviable prospect stripping it back down for that. But it's but another small task within the big picture considering how much good work you've done on it already mind! Anyone old hands locally to bribe into doing the dirty driveway dingle-balling for you?
