You will be quite safe. It pushes the car up when heavy loaded but when not, it it is relaxed. Removed mine lots of times not an issue.

Don't think it is as quite simple as that. 1. Taking the glass out of the frame is not going to be very easy at all. 2. It has to be a heated replacement.

Top tailgate was getting very hard to close lately and today it decided to crack from top to bottom. Has anybody claimed on their glass policy for the rear tailgate and what do they replace just glass or complete tailgate?

Rather than trying to pry the plate off, get something with a flat head and give the lock barrel a smart smack with a hammer, should pop out.

Not sure what has gone on here. That cover plate should just fall off, It only retains the spring and lock. If you are going to force it off just buy a secondhand handle and swap over your lock. Don't buy a plunger it is not needed. The lock is a simple item.

Remove the handle from the tailgate via the two bolts. Then you will see two Phillips screws that hold a cover plate to the handle, remove the screws and the lock barrel will come out. Keep the parts in the order that they come out. There is a slot in the handle so you can only fit it one way.
