I was told the hairline crack in the old head can't be seen with the naked eye. Does that sound legitimate?

Here are a few pics from my visit to the garage. Mechanic said that there were two issues which led to the blown HG. 1- when the last mechanic replaced the head gasket in January of this year, he did not scrape off all the remnants of the old head gasket before replacing with the new one...

A hairline crack was discovered in the head. I guess that could explain why this HG blew so quickly. Now the garage is looking for a replacement. Of course, I'm losing sleep over how the price is going to skyrocket

The number is currently 879 but I am comfortable with the attention to detail that the mechanics are giving it. They sent it off yesterday to skim the head and it will hopefully be put back together by the weekend. I certainly hope this is the last of the major issues for at least a couple...

Like a bunch of cash dipped in disappointment . I wish I knew enough to be able to say what it was, but it did not smell like fuel to me and I can't really say if it smelled like coolant either. Keep in mind that I have driven petrol vehicles my whole life and this is my first diesel.

Suspected HG but the garage is conducting pressure test to confirm. This is gonna get expensive!
