Chassis removed what to do? Video

Wish they still had apprenticeships like back in those times. Near me the only ones were in the aviation industry and the entry requirements, tests were too much for this buzz alas.

Chassis removed what to do? Video

I tell you what, if LR have crumple zones in Defenders they must be bloody extreme. The actual design of them prevents it collapsing as that's why they are so safe. I've seen one sustain a head-on from a lorry (collision speed about 60 to 80 mph) and both occupants were completely intact...

    Defender Clutch, Master or Slave?!

If my clutch fluid dips down a bit the 'bite' of the clutch / pedal sits lower I find. I top her up and it generally returns to normal after a bit.

    Roger that.

Anyone else out there use there Defender for work?

I commute in mine when I'm working. Would like to use it 'for working' one day though. Not much call for farm work these days unless you own the place.

    I Bent the Wheel Brace!

Well I sourced a cheap breaker bar to try and get the stubborn wheel nuts off. Only cost me 2 quid from the scrappers. Took it home, got stuck in to the nuts. 4 of the 5 were alright and cracked open not a problem. But one (there's always one) was too tight and actually bent the bloody wheel...

    Road tax question

Mine is a Utility as well in spec, but is 2001 Registered and I'm charged 315 a year. Hmmm.

    Insurance

I pay 200 quid for my lannie insurance. I'm not old, have full NCB and it's fully comp. It's one of the last of the 300 TDIs.

    Road tax question

You lost me on that one. Is that some Kit Landrover Pickup machine that comes under exemptions? I pay 315 pounds for mine which just slipped into the lower bracket by mere months.

    Road tax question

For my 300TD I paid about £4,300 a few years back. It wasn't and isn't in great condition cosmetically, but structurally it was, and is, rock solid for the most part. The only thing that gave me a bit of pause for concern was a drilling company used it and a fleet of defenders. So I had the RAC...

New Tyres - What about the spare?

Just slam the bstard spare on the bonnet with fitting apparatus, fit an industrial-grade spring under the bonnet for extra lift and Bob's your uncle. Just be careful lifting it on your own to make sure the pivot bar locks out correctly.

Chassis removed what to do? Video

Och aye the noo Jimmie! Cool 80s music, goes well with the video. Well done on getting the chassis removed too. Looks like a bit of work but it doesn't seem awful from my amateur eye. Definitely needs some TLC and restoration. I reckon that chassis is not beyond repair. Take still pictures of...

    Steel Wheel Overhaul

What are alloys like to use? Are they prone to peeling and denting? I've heard once an alloy is damaged there's no way to knock it back into place? But with steel it's an easier repair.

    Steel Wheel Overhaul

Thanks. Yeah pretty much, I had to try and get that with the dremel and a very fine, blade-like cutter attachment.

    New defender picture

Looks like a more hardcore version of a Range Rover, with a winch. Too much over the Range-Rover / Disco side for me, but maybe it'll change a bit yet?

    Steel Wheel Overhaul

Then it's just the base-coat and clear-coats and onto the Lannie it goes! I was a bit hasty in re-mounting the wheel and nearly put my back out! So have to R and R for a bit before the next three...

    Steel Wheel Overhaul

After using rust treatment I begin the fun part - spraying! Doing this part without getting primer / base-coats onto the tyre is a bit like squaring the circle. At first I tried using an old sheet with a circle cut into it, then I taped it around the tyre leaving the 'hole' part for the exposed...

    Steel Wheel Overhaul

I get both sides sanded down using drills and sandpaper. Those flapper-wheel things are handy for this I find. For getting right into the tighter areas of it I use some more exotic drill bits to carefully remove the paint and any rusty residue. Initially I used a dremel but this really didn't...
