R380 gearbox oil: Texaco MTF-94 vs Castrol Transmax Z

There are thousands of threads on the MTF-94 oil and I know it is the workshop manual oil for R380, but my local reputable independent LR garage suggests Transmax Z. I have used this oil in my gearbox twice (every 2 years) and haven't had any issues. I would really like to understand, what is...

    TD5 Starting issue

Far from being knowledgeable, but sounds like a wiring issue?

Nanocom code: "(8,2) FUEL PUMP DRIVE OVER TEMPERATURE"

Good people on this forum! Can anyone help me decode this Nanocom (8,2) FUEL PUMP DRIVE OVER TEMPERATURE (logged)? I have a 2006 TD5 Defender. I am surprised that googling doesn't return any results :|

Flooring a diesel to clean the exhaust system

Thanks, flat! Will google Italian tune-up! Good indicator You've got there :D

Flooring a diesel to clean the exhaust system

Thanks guys, from all this feedback I conclude: 1. regular flooring on the highway is reasonable 2. getting black smoke is not the goal My questions are: a. should I hold high stable revs for 30-60 seconds or more (lets say 90-95 kmh in 4th gear)? b. is there any importance to 'accelerate...

Flooring a diesel to clean the exhaust system

I don't know if it's a legitimate advice or just a legend, but does it make sense to take the truck to the highway every once in a while and floor it hard to 'burn off the excesses of exhaust gunk built-up'? One should see a black cloud of smoke/ash flying out of the exhaust when this is done...

    Commercial chassis rust proofing...which one?

Sorry for the late reply, Hippo! Thanks for this tip on the jet!! Do You think the nozzle would fit through the existing holes of the chassis or would they need to be widened?

    Light bar

Guys, there is this pretty interesting offer on ebay. I just put in an order, so can't comment on the quality and service, but paypal should have some protection from fraud. Guess a 54' led bar for 50-60 pounds is not a bad deal? I bought this one...

    Commercial chassis rust proofing...which one?

Benpalmer, thank You for very informative posts. Gottschalk, You can't do the galvanising yourself, right? It's like boiling the whole chassis in a large tub?

    Commercial chassis rust proofing...which one?

Benpalmer, thanks for the encouragement! Where does one attempt a job this dirty? In a garage with lots of plastic wrapper on the floor?

    Commercial chassis rust proofing...which one?

Meego, You are right! I should forget the paid way and do it myself. I searched for 'drill chassis' on this forum, but everyone is talking about attaching new gear to the truck, not about getting the mud out. Are there any known rules of thumb about this? I understand that no holes should be...

    Commercial chassis rust proofing...which one?

I have been thinking a lot about this recently. My chassis is starting to go orange in many places and that 'catch it' term is exactly what I'm trying to achieve. I was impressed by the review FunRover did for Dinitrol here...

    Defenders Replacement

It's clear from these images they will make something along the lines of the new RR mixed with D5. I've been thinking that if they based the design on the Bowler Wildcat and maybe through some influences from the Dakar rally 4x4s like the Peuogeot here I would be really happy for it to...

Rear differential clunk - how bad?

Sorry to bother with this again, but can anyone help me with the part number on this part? The website I found yesterday says they are out of stock: https://yrmit.co.uk/product/hdg-frame-chassis-brackets-pair/ I don't seem to find it here either: http://new.lrcat.com/#!/1228/7683/10169/822...

Rear differential clunk - how bad?

Thanks a lot, windy81!! I had a similar situation with the fuel pump. It was a burnt wire situation, but I replaced it. I think it's not a sunk cost, if You are planning to use the truck for some time still :)

Rear differential clunk - how bad?

Wow, windy81, thanks for this story! This part is really scary: "So i replaced the rear diff with a new Ashcroft locking diff, new Halfshafts...... clunking still !!!! Wtf!!!!!!" To put about 2k euros into it.. Could You guide me a little more into what those A frame saddles are? Something...

Rear differential clunk - how bad?

Thanks, James! Do You think this logic holds ground that if the clunk is audible only setting off, it is unlikely to be the diff?

Rear differential clunk - how bad?

Thanks for thinking it through with me :) The clunk is audible only when setting off, never while driving, never during upshifts or downshifts, turning or generally while already driving. Only when starting from standstill. It could indeed be something in the bushes hmm..
