At Last The Big TD5 job

I wouldn't worry about your bolts/holes, I would expect they will be fine but I use an assembly paste under the bolthead when I install head bolts. Click here, ARP. It stops that pinging and lets you torque up nice and smooth. I noticed on Elring (I think) gaskets now that the torque sequence...

Rebuild Advice - What do I need?

When you say a full rebuild do you mean of the whole car or just the engine? Gearboxes too or not?

    Ummm, I'm in Suffolk

So, how do you know where green lanes are? Are there maps to show them or do you just search for byways and just drive it?

    Oil pump

On the bottom? Nothing. Differences are in the head. Fuel return from above the alternator back behind the air intake. Timing chain tensioner. Green injectors on late engine. Cam part number - not sure exactly what the differences are between them though. Valve cover gasket.

    Cam difference between 10p & 15p?

Aside from the numbers printed on them, I can't detect any differences. As someone else said on another thread, the LGC seems to be a supercession from the ERR but I don't know what the differences are. I would be interested to see if anyone has an ERR with green injectors and whether they have...

That really is the dark side isn’t it? Have they invented electric up there yet?

    New td5 cylinder head issues!

I think you should stop going over things that you’ve done already There’s a small chance that it’s the seals since they’ve been done 4 times. Leave alone. It seems to me that the fuelling is not correct until it warms up or the timing isn’t quite right. I asked in a previous post how it...

    Ummm, I'm in Suffolk

I’m near Felixstowe with a D2. Never been laning before but wouldn’t mind a try. Happy to meet for a beer and stories too.

    New td5 cylinder head issues!

I don’t think injector seals are the problem. If it was, you’d have a pressurised fuel rail which will eventually starve the engine of fuel and it would stop. If seals did give the symptoms at start up it would also do it when warm. And how does it start? Straight away or difficult?

    New td5 cylinder head issues!

I don't see why the injector loom would be at fault. If it goes like a train after warming up, there's nothing wrong with the injectors nor the loom. It's more likely something giving false information to the ECU or the ECU itself. Maybe the coolant sensor.

    Power Steering Pump

Well, I contacted Melling USA, after getting no response from Melling UK. They flat out denied to even know what a pump from a TD5 was - despite it having a Melling sticker on it. I now believe that someone else has bought that part of their business but I don’t know who. It makes finding...

At Last The Big TD5 job

The bearings are stamped Rover on the underside if original. I don’t think anything is marked for a particular cylinder but you may see a green stripe down the side of the conrod to show which halves match exactly. If a piston is marked for no. 1 then I think that’s not factory. I have 4 used...

Old question but cant seem to find answer

The early camshaft part no. starts ERR. It’s etched at the front. Hard to see unless in the right light. A later cam starts LC something.

    New td5 cylinder head issues!

The early cam starts ERR, the late one starts LRC? I think. L something anyway. It’s stamped around the front end. I don’t know what the differences are, maybe just a higher lift on the late one. The shaft itself may be the same for each but odd that yours was damaged after machining the head...

At Last The Big TD5 job

Are you doing the main bearings etc? Don’t forget the crank thrust bearings. Best to do everything you can while you’ve got it stripped. No point having to do bearings in another 20k miles. I just rebuilt mine with new pistons and rings, well, everything really. It runs perfectly and I hope...

    New td5 cylinder head issues!

I don’t understand why the head needed to be machined for the cam but... You have green injectors, is it a late engine? The cams for early and late engines have different part numbers so did your original cam definitely get used? You have an uprated intercooler, have you remapped the ECU to...

    Power Steering Pump

I know this is an old thread, but in case anyone is interested... Hobourn (UK) was established in 1946, joined with Eaton later on then went out of business in 1987. Melling (US) then seem to have bought their tooling so you may find the pump in your Landy says Melling. So, anything Hobourn or...

Anyone watching this guy on Youtube?

Chuckee2009! I've watched him too. He was quite young at the time. I'll look him up again. I reckon we should promote Mike at Britannica Restorations and get him some more viewers. Maybe even sort out a group buy for his modified clutch forks. Not that I need one but I'm sure plenty will. I...
