    Brake light electrical issue

So, so true. Get the earth attached properly, and try again. That wiring looks horrible, however. Were the wired just twisted together? In the wheel arch? That's never going to last. My trailer socket was wired in using chocolate block, which I thought was bad enough, but at least it was up...

    Hinge and mirrors

I was going to say that the mirrors bolt directly to the hinges on my S3, as shown in the parts catalogue...

    Series IIA Headlight Advice

It's possible the Amazon price pixies have been playing games. Never mind. I'll maybe set up a CamelCamelCamel check to keep an eye on it. Thanks for the pointer, though. And yeah, I realise the tripod isn't for stone protection. It was just the totally clear lenses on mine look a little bland...

    Series IIA Headlight Advice

Ooh, now you've got me tempted, at that price! Where they new, or a used set that's now gone? Did they have any more? I have to admit that the clear lens of the units I got, doesn't really fit in with the S3 styling so well. But at least I didn't get any of these...

No black/silver number plates for me.

The problems is that the one thing they can use to determine the age of the Landy is the number plate! And an X reg says 1981. The fact that it's actually old enough to quality is lost by the fact that registration is too recent. The other thing I may struggle with is finding somewhere to...

    Cold running - Sorted!

Yeah, that was my intention, but that'll have to wait until my drive on the way to the MoT test. Obviously I'm not allowed to drive it on the road, yet, and I can't get up enough speed on my driveway to actually do anything useful!

    Cold running - Sorted!

Yeah, that's what's particularly annoying, since I have the V8 filter plumbed into my system. I briefly took it out a few months ago when I couldn't stop it leaking, but managed to resolve that and refitted it. I guess the crud could all have got in there for those brief moments when I ran...

No black/silver number plates for me.

I suspect the intention *was* to link black/silver plates to historic status, but then someone noticed that SPECS speed cameras wouldn't detect black/silver plates, so they've backtracked on it. Not that many Land Rovers would bother many speed cameras... Never mind. Would have been nice, and...

No black/silver number plates for me.

Damn. Just seen this https://www.fbhvc.co.uk/news/article/changes-to-black-silver-number-plates-from-01012021 Sorry if someone has already posted that. The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust think my car was built in 1979, but it was a Complete Knock Down kit that was exported and...

    Series IIA Headlight Advice

Those tripods do look nice! I took a slightly different approach. A couple of basic 7" lenses similar to your option 2, and a pair of E-marked LED H4 bulbs. These are nice and bright (as good as halogen), but consume around 35W each, so should stress the wiring and stalk/switch contacts less...

    Cold running - Sorted!

Thanks so much for the comments over the last few days, chaps. Took the carb off the Landy and lifted the lid on it today. Was very surprised by the state of it! It was brand new when I got the engine running before removing it, so it's only had maybe an hour total running time, and zero miles...

    Cold running - Sorted!

OK, thanks. It's good that this is all pointing towards carb problems. Fingers crossed it'll be obvious when I open it up tomorrow.

    Cold running - Sorted!

It was mostly correct when I got the engine running a while ago, and I've not changed the timing since, so that *should* be OK... I have a feeling I might have one of those here! I think I put it away, and carbs don't really have a lot of adjustment, but maybe the colour chart would at least...

    Cold running - Sorted!

A little playing around this afternoon. Carefully squirted a bit of easy start around the carb and vacuum joints when engine was running, an no change in engine speed or sound. If I'd squirted any on any leaks, I hope I would have heard some effect of that. So I don't think I have any...

    Rear Axle Alignment problem

Shock absorber? Or spring? I assume the shackles were at quite different angles. I was very careful to keep front/rear left/fight quite separate and ensure I knew which end of the spring was the front...just in case!

    Cold running - Sorted!

Yeah, I've been looking around and thinking about this, and I'm wondering whether the accelerator pump isn't working as it should. Not sure how to remove the jets to check them...more Googling required. I have been pondering whether to investigate a MegaSquirt conversion!

    Cold running - Sorted!

Landy is finally back together again, and almost ready for an MoT, I think. Just need to get the headlights roughly aligned, and book a test. ...so went to take it on its first 'drive', to position it in front of a wall to check the beam. But didn't manage to move it. While I'm not used to...

    Brake pipes.

I'd suggest buying a selection of different sizes from ebay, and keep a note (label?) one of each size, so you *know*! You can then use them as checks for all things you need to screw into. A couple of blanking caps are useful both as reference 'sockets', as well as capping off the lines to...

    Series 3 Gearbox breather

Yeah, I looked there. No dice, although I did find a washer I dropped a few weeks ago! It wasn't dropped, as much as flicked in a random direction... When the weather warms up a little and stops raining, I will take another look, though. It's got to be out there somewhere...

Scrub that...I've found an M10 x 1.5mm banjo bolt on the Think Automotive web site, so I've ordered one of those, too. Something *must* fit!
