The MAP sensor or "Manifold Absolute Pressure" sensor measures the absolute pressure in the inlet manifold ..... to state the obvious. It converts an absolute pressure reading into a voltage signal which the engine ECU uses.
Not sure which car you are talking about but the turbo boost control...
Ignition key switch playing up. Showed "ignition key in" after taking out key.
Gave it a few squirts of contact cleaner. Let it dry out and gave it a squirt of graphite powder. Been OK so far.
There are two plastic drain pipes underneath the car either side of the gearbox which drains water from the aircon. I know they do block up.
Just a suggestion, if water does back up it may run onto the heater matrix.
Hmm............might try some of that and see if it works. I can hear a tap on the RHS of my diesel when it is cold. It disappears when it gets hot. I think it is a tappet.
You may be right but when I was down there a few months ago I got the impression they did all the L/R ZF boxes.
I remember a conversation with Dave Ashcroft about the latest 8 speed box !
If you don't fancy rebuilding it yourself try Ashcroft Transmissions in Luton. They are nearer to you.
I got my p38 box changed by Autoland, Dunstable, one of the garages they use £325 +VAT. They were very good. In and out in half a day.
There is a theory that fully synthetic engine oil is not suitable for old design engines.
The hydraulic tappets don't pump themselves up properly. However I don't know about the petrol as I have got a diesel. I just know mine rattles more on fully synth.
Switching to a conventional mineral oil...
It has been 20 years since I have had a classic but way back then when I looked at conversions I remember the GM diesel was based on a GM V8 petrol engine with the design modified accordingly. It was never a success. Better to design a diesel engine from scratch.
The SVO that I buy is (food grade) rapeseed oil. It is a "soft" oil similar in characteristics to sunflower oil. It does not need to be filtered. Just mix it 50/50% with diesel. Avoid palm oil which gels at low temps and you will be alright. I have examined the fuel filter on mine closely and...
You can put heaters in. Usually if you go for a twin tank system.
Start on diesel and then when everything up to temp switch to second tank on 100% veg oil.
WVO is hard to come by. Every man and his dog wants it.
I use SVO from Costco at 90p/L in 20L kegs. I get 4 or 5 kegs every time I go there. They think I own a big restaurant.
The indirect injection BMW M51 engine is quite happy running on veg oil.
Been running mine on a 50/50% mix of SVO/diesel for about 18 months now.
Starts OK on a 50% mix but harder to start in the cold when using 75% SVO.
Mixing in the tank is the only problem. The method I use is to run the...
Sorry, overlandrover, didn't mean to denigrate the good people of Kazakhstan.
Just making a joke.
You are right the lazy bastards in this country couldn't build a radiator for $200.
The next time mine goes I will order one from Kazakhstan.
