You wpuld also have to recalibrate the back window every time it cut out! So the unit does its thing, you press the button to reconnect, which ever type is chosen.... Then power the back window up. The problem I see with that is if it happens on a frosty morning when the window is frozen shut...

That would be virtually a complete reshell of the l series, Engine,gearbox, wiring loom, dash, all control modules, more than a weekends work!

I am a mechanicby trade and I drive a recovery truck, I get called out to such a wide array of vehicles over the course of a year.... I can't remember where to find every diagnostic socket.... I drive a freelander and I dont even know where to find the socket on one! So just cuz he didn't know...

Have you checked the splines in the gearbox where the ird shafts connect. Mine stripped the inner one which is the through drive for the lh drive shaft. When it went was a slight lump and a brief whizzing noise. I was also in 2wd mode at the time. All the drive is out putted through the ird...

Err it will fit but it won't work....... The face lifted fl1 uses canbus communication. So it would be like plugging a modern computer into a spectrum tape drive........

Most big jobs on an older vehicle are not worth it...... It is one thing to replace an engine using one from an auto into a manual retaining the manual gearbox.... It is another thing altogether to convert a car from automatic to manual.... You would need a donor vehicle ideally for all...
